So..... 08' xt with ebr race ecm....

I always allow the bike to fully warm up before taking of, i.e. I let it run without any input until the idle drops to 1100. Go for a ride, shut it down. If I leave again shortly, like if it was just a fuel stop, it's almost as if it tries to start in skip spark or something, throws the cel and dies. Second attempt starts right up, and the cel dies out. Get home and check the codes, and there aren't any.... WTF....

Ideas please, this is repeatable and annoying....

My '07 Uly sometimes (maybe once every 10 times I ride it) gets a momentary CEL when the active exhaust valve fails to cycle correctly on start-up ... I don't get bent out of shape about it though, been happening for about 2 years now.

I don't think it throws any codes either.

No, not a problem with the actuator.... Cold start is perfect every time. This is happening every time on a warm/hot start i.e. fuel stop. When I go to start the bike again, it's like it is trying to start in skip spark, chugs heavy, seams like it s only firing every other rotation, sputters and dies after about two seconds. I let the fuel pump prime itself again abd fires right up the second time.

It is only doing this when it is warm.

I also noticed that the fan only comes on above 15-20 mph, and does not continue to run after shut down.

I'm interested also, mine's acting the same way lately. After a good warmup if I shut it down for more than 5 minutes it barely starts if still hot, and runs erratic and lean as hell until I hold the revs up for a minute. I can ride away at that point but it pops and sputters and is definitely low on power. Generally takes a few miles to straighten out.

Something is heat-sinking I think but I don't know what. New O2 sensor, ETS, IATS, swapped in repaired ECM, new fuel pump-pump. I'll be pulling the throttle body (again) to replace the injector and manifold seals this weekend, maybe that will fix it.

I wonder if you guys have checked the breather valves / hoses to make sure there is no blockage?

Also, ignition-related stuff such as the plugs, plug wires and VR can reveal a fault when hot.

Maybe that ECM is turning the fan off too soon.

It may actually heat soak to the point of being just a little too hot in that short of a shut down time.

You could test by making that shut down time a little shorter and longer to figure out just how much cool down time makes it mess up.

I would put the stock ECM back in to eliminate any hardware problems, then put the race ECM back in to varify. One of the things they were fixing with that ECM was the complaint of "noisy fan running at shut off". Your bike may require that the fan needs to run longer on shut down.

on 07 x, fan runs to 170c, key off. cools fast. then on hot start, you are up to 180c, before cold start enrichment and timing are off the chart then back to maps. at that point you may have 300 miles plus on bike for day and you are still on cold start program. sensor cools fast but not so on heating back up. noted this in other post, other thread. ive left fan off alone but fan on i've turned down to 210 c. what should head temp be run at according to fan temp from you gear heads out there? Constantly wanting to improve the experience! Just saying!

Mine with the stock ECM does this too.

Long lived engines need to be run until they are good and hot and on our ULYs that means the fan will come on at shudown. I try to always ride my bike long enough to ensure the fan comes on at shutdown and it seems to like that I do. Too many of my past bikes were used for very short runs and I'd end up with plenty of condensation goo on the oil dipstick. Those engines didn't last very long and it was probably because of all the acid buildup. Not going to happen on the ULY if I can help it. Love the fan noise.
