I have a 2010 Uly X and I'm ready to get a flatter seat. I have been working the seat options over the last few years (low, gel low, High, etc), but what I am finding is that the seat on the bike still has an incline to it no matter what version I put on.

What I would like to have is a flat seat like the Corbin or TPI on the KLR's. A firm, flat with no incline/angle to it.

My current seat is the high version with a coleman seat pad along with some foam I have stuffed in between the seat and the seat pad. It's almost flat, but not quiet.

Does anyone have a lead on a truly flat or dished seat that sits flat within the frame angle of the Uly?

You're going to have to get that done as a custom fit. No one is making any other seats for this bike, other than the ones you mentioned.

I had a custom seat made, worth every penny ; )

I sent mine to Baldwin Cycle Saddles. He has a core program so you don't need to be bikeless and he does excellent work, I couldn't be more pleased.

Sugar - who made your custom seat? What parameters did you give them for making the seat?

Woodnbow - What parameters did you give Baldwin to customize your seat. I have several seats Low and Tall I can send to them, I just want to make sure I get a firm, flat seat or dished seat back without all of the back n forth.
Do you know where Baldwin is located?

Slowride,
Why not just undo the cover to get at the foam and slice off the foam yourself and then re-staple on the cover. It's not rocket science and you'll be able to save yourself a bundle.

I have a spare tall seat and plan on doing that myself because I've noticed that the wider part of the seat is never used because of the forward downward angle that I think you are writing about.

Slowride,

I had my seat made at Rich's Custom Moto Seats. And the parameters I gave him were my body. No joke. He forms the seat to you.
I live pretty close to them, so I was pretty easy for me, but most folks are from all over the country (and Canada) that I met there. Seems like folks plan, or incorporate moto trips there. He has a few apartments above the shop, which are actually really, really nice.

You get there at about 8 AM, and I left after 6 PM. It's a pretty involved process, one which "you" are quite involved in. Everyone there was super cool, and I couldn't be happier with my seat.

I'll post a few pics.

Also, Rich has a website that has a video that details what they do. Check it out.

I should say that I have no affiliation with Rich's. I'm just a happy customer : )

The optional '06 Low seat was flat. It used a gel pad that was about an inch thick. The part that I did not like was that it was still just as wide as the seat pan of the tall seat. After a long ride I felt like I had those "birthing hips" you could read about in old magazines.

Here's a before shot of my OEM 2009 Seat. It was flat alright. Flat and wide like a downhill ski jump - Man that think was the worst seat ever!

I told him I wanted it widened at least 2" on the drivers seat and as much as he could manage on the pillion. I also told him I wanted it between the tall and low seats in height and flat to prevent the forward slide you're experiencing. I gave him my height, weight and inseam and the same measurements for my wife. I'm very happy with the results. 500 mile days are no problem now and the seat looks good! PM me your email address and I'll send pics.

Woodnbow,
How about them pics? I want to get a seat on order this month and I think yours and Sugarmc would be the two I would choose from.

An OEM seat on a bike will NEVER be perfect for everyone. A custom made one is the way to go.

Electraglider_1997 "I have a spare tall seat and plan on doing that myself". FYI if it is of any help to you, and others, with this project. I have recently modified the seat on my MZ Baghira myself as it was WAY, WAY to hard, narrow and forward pitching for road riding.

I wanted to use memory foam so I cut up an old Ikea memory foam pillow I had into a 30mm slice using a home made foam cutter made with 0.5mm Ni-Chrome wire and a 12v battery. After removing the old seat cover, and staples, I cut away what I thought I needed from the top and sides of the seats foam and glued on the new memory foam with "super sticky" spray on carpet adhesive. I then "profiled" this foam using a "free hand" version of my home made foam cutter.
I then covered the seat with some black fabric that I already had. This fabric is elastic in only one direction so you can "mold" it to fit the new contours of the seat. It was glued onto the foam and under the seat, withe the same adhesive, so no staples were needed.

The fabric is not waterproof but if it does get wet a wipe with a paper towel will remove it. The foam is waterproof so it is not a problem. I had all the parts apart from the wire which cost me $3 and the used seat for $24. All in it would not be more than $40 and some skill/ effort.

Ok so it is not a Pro job but it works very well, is very comfy and looks good. Not bad for a first effort I thought and for less than 30 bucks it is a bargain.
