I finished a long ride down the I-25 and I-10 slab from Denver to Tucson during 13-15 August with a breakdown in Santa Fe. Voltage regulator and stator.

As I prepare for the return ride, the plan is to go back via the Devil's Highway (old US 666, now US 191) from Clifton up to Springerville, AZ then over to Santa Fe for the first overnight.

I am interested in any opinions or suggestions for US 191 or other routes going back from Santa Fe to Denver.

Riding solo, as usual, and am praying for no more breakdowns. Love my Uly but we have had some unpleasant times on the side of the road.

Heading out on 19 SEP.

Thank you in advance.

If you go through Albuquerque on 25 hang a right on 40 and go East to 14. Take 14 North to 536 and take a left. This takes you to the top of Sandia Crest which is one heck of a view and the road there is a hoot!! Take a picture and head back down to 14 and continue North. You will go through Madrid which is an art colony and where the movie Wild Hogs was filmed. The Mine Shaft Tavern has biker only parking and is a very cool place. This is the oldest rendition of the old Route 66 in this area. Takes you right up to Santa Fe.

When you leave Sante Fe head towards Taos until you hit 64. Go East on 64 to Interstate 25. 64 is a great ride also.

Thank you Tootal. I will take you up on the Albuquerque leg, it sounds worth the miles. My wife and I did the Taos to Santa Fe portion a few years ago during a getaway down the San Luis Valley form Colorado. Great ride!

So I have decided on my route home that includes two very nice legs --

1) US 191 in Arizona (Devil's Hwy)

2)S tate Hwy 14 and 536 in New Mexico up to Sandia Peak.

Thank you for the input!

So thanks to a late entry from Bartimus in New Mexico (thank you), I have modified my route to reflect leaving on the 2nd day out of Alpine to Santa Fe via the new route displayed here. It does tons better for riding, plus I will stay overnight at the Tal-WiWi lodge instead of going into Springerville (thanks Ghostrider for the suggestion). Now if the Hurricane Odile remnants will just disappear quickly, I can enjoy a dry ride. Either way though, I am going!

That route looks great! I have had the pleasure of riding on those roads before and consider it a treat ... and this time of year there should still be a few green chile roasters going - yum!
