Last weeks minitour with my wife in 90 deg temps against nasty headwinds on Hwy 138 resulted in the lower molding on my Buell Redline literally falling down around my neck. Loved that helmet but it's long past replacement time and it smells weird. Embarassed for me/her to be seen wearing the molding like a horse collar she insisted I get something new, so I settled on this:  HJC CL-17. Man do I love this thing! Snug, quiet, light, vents that actually work, shield clarity I've never experienced. And very important to me, my eye glasses slip right in. That feature alone dismissed several I looked at. $130 +/- at various outlets but HJC's sizing charts on websites doesn't seem accurate so I'd try on in person. If you're in the market for a lower cost option you might look into the CL-17. | ||

I think it is awesome that you were able to find a great helmet for your noggin for only $130. Helmets are always risky investments since you never know how well they really work out unless you actually spend a few hours on the bike with one. I recently bought a Shoei RF1200. Very comfortable and has a pinlock visor that won't fog for anything. But the damn thing is so loud and venting is only so-so. I am wondering if the Uly seating position is just too upright for that helmet to function properly at speed. Spent a small fortune for it but still tend to opt for my 5-year-old Joe Rocket Carbon helmet most of the time, which I USED to think was loud. | ||

Congrats on the new lid! I despise helmet shopping, and fell in love with an Arai this spring, but my pocketbook did not have warm fuzzies for it. I finally opted for a Nolan with a drop down sunscreen. It fits well, is super lightweight, vents fine for the type of riding I do now (non-Florida), and it worked well when I was teaching in the rain. Is that HJC snell certified? | ||

Yes, Fltwistygirl, the HJC CL-17, which I too love, is both Snell and DOT certified. | ||

I had an FS?15 Carbon helmet. Actually still do but I bought a Shoei Qwest this spring and I am loving that lid. Very quiet, high quality everywhere. I'm very satisfied. | ||

Thanks, helmet opinions are always very subjective, but Web Bike World's review helped convince me to buy it after I tried it on: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/h jc/cl-17/review.htm I'm pretty much unwilling (mostly unable) to spend the high $$$ some spend for a helmet. Personally can't justify it. Only other helmet I really liked that I tried on in the last few months of shopping was a Shoei Neotec, excellent helmet IMO but the cost was ridiculously out of my budget. If one can afford a more expensive helmet then great, a lot of us can't. HJC is smart on this one, shields are dialed in and used on multiple helmets as are the ratchets which lowers the cost for replacements. It's Snell/DOT which nullifies the helmet snobs' "$10 head, buy a $10 helmet" mantra. Zero buffeting on my Uly at freeway cruise speeds. Did I mention it FITS?  | ||

I always buy fiberglass helmets, I am not convinced that the plastic ones are worth the few bucks that I could save. I currently have a Scorpion EXO700 in HiViz lime green. The magazines say to replace a helmet every 5 years. I have an Arai, an AGV, a Shoei, and an HJC in the garage, I liked them all. | ||

@ Buewulf ... I've also got a Shoei RF1200, 2nd one as the first kind of got broken in a little crash back in 2012. I found mine to be a little noisy as well. Try to adjust the face shield back toward the seal to get it to close a little tighter. You can do this by loosening the cover mechanism on each side and moving it back. It helped mine.
