Hi, time to add a adventure bike to the stable,I am getting a little confused between the X and the XT...I am 6'2" and long-legged, and think the X is a bit taller?
Hopefully somebody can clarify for me
Thank You

yes. X is taller. with a 2006 seat, it's perfect for my 6'3" butt.

Thanks, is the 06 seat a direct fit or minor mods needed?
I am looking at a '07 X with 17k on it, with all 3 factory boxes $4200, seems about right from what I have been looking at, I need to go see in person yet
Possible that I will be asking a lot more questions as I proceed
Thanks Again!

The tall seat was original equipment on the '06. For '07 it got modified a bit with the front area was made a little more narrow to make reach to the ground easier.

There are several factory seats available. They all fit the same, they have the same seat pan under the foam. No mods necessary, however they can be tough to latch the first couple of times.

All year and type seats are interchangeable, but may take some "persuading" to fit.

Be aware there is a history of crankshaft failures with the 2007 model. Search here for more info.

You can still get the 2010 tall seat and it's a little nicer than the stock 06 seat. Put some 2" drop pegs on it, (It already has 1" drop so you gain 1"). Between the two your legs won't cramp up nearly as soon.

Here is the thread. IMHO, at $4200 with luggage, the bike you are looking at has already been discounted for some crank risk.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/648773.html?1374261251

I just pulled my 07's top end at 30k and sent the heads to Pammy at Cycle Rama. Pulled it for some tapping, was worried about the crank, and it was carboned up and pitted valves and valve seats. Crank appears perfect as far as I can tell.

Remember looking at that chart that people with no problems are unlikely to show up and report "all is fine". So look at the number of failures relative to all bikes built, not the number of bikes without problems listed.

In particular, the number of very high milage bikes on that thread without a problem suggest that it isn't simply an unavoidable design flaw.

My head situation also made me wonder what would have happened had I ignored it and kept riding. The carbon was building up a lot in the squish band. Would it, at some point, have built up enough to stress the crank? I have no idea how it builds up, but mine was already squished "flat" in a few places in the squish band.

Anyway, lots of 06's and 07's running around with plenty of miles. The 08's and later definitely have a superior crank and oiling system.

Thanks Reepi
I still think I will check this one out in person
Its only 20 mins from home
Having to rebuild something is not all that big of deal, as long as the case doesn't get boogered
I am a road rep for Biker's Choice/Tucker Rocky so parts don't hurt too bad : )

How many miles? Less than 30k and no bad noises and I'd buy it for that. If I had the money. : )

More than 30k and I'd have to look closer, but wouldn't rule it out.
