Rode Uly from Omaha to Black Hills. Camped and rode for 4 days. Rode on to Yellowstone National Park. Camped over night and watched Old Faithful do it's thing and then rode to Meridian, Idaho and stayed with my sister for 3 days. Did some small mouth bass fishing. Brother stayed on in Idaho and I started to head back home by riding to Rawlins, Wyoming and hoteled overnight and then rode back home to Omaha, NE. Total trip miles over 3200 miles and no motorcycle problems. My 06' now has just under 47,000 miles on it. All photos on trip were taken by my brother who rode his 2007 Harley dresser who also had no bike problems. Most of the time I got 50 mpg. Found out my butt was mostly good for about 400 to 500 per day and killed me when riding 700 mile days. Absolute torture. Thank the lord that I was able to stand up on the pegs to rest my arse when ever I couldn't take it anymore.

Usually cruised at 75 mph to get good mpg. Got to thinking that Buell better be making a decent 1190AX that will get great mpg and at 85 mph loping along speed. If it is just a sports tourer then forgetaboutit. If it is a mid control, sit up and beg bike like the ULY then I will be very interested.

Awesomeness! Good to see you got in a great ride this year.

I know what you are saying about those longer mile days. I go to where I was riding about the first three hundred on the stock '06 tall seat, switching to my Airhawk for the next two hundred or so. Then it would get uncomfortable enough to take it out where I could cross the 700 mile mark back on the bare seat.

Totally agree about the AX. I had an opportunity to ride the SX and RX a couple weeks ago. I declined, I just did not want to spend my nights drooling over the wrong bike. If things changed and the AX did not make it to production I would probably go nuts about having to buy the wrong machine.

Good for you EG! We need some pics and a ride report. Good to hear old dudes getting out and riding. It's been so damn hot and rainy here I haven't ridden in a month or so.

I'll post some photos if I can get my brother to send them to me.
The small mouth bass fishing was done outside of Boise at a stream that fed into this reservoir on the Boise River. My brother-in-law is fishing tournament guy with an aluminum bass boat with a 75hp two stroke motor and electric trolling motor. He'd never been up to this stream before and it was crystal clear and you could see all the fish below us. We had no live bait but found they loved hitting the fake rubbery leaches. The small mouth weren't real large but they sure fight. Saw a couple of medium sized reddish colored land locked salmon in the stream but didn't catch one. Not sure if my brother got any fish photos since he was fishing also.

ET,
This was my second long ride this year because my brother and I rode down to our youngest sister's home down outside of Phoenix back in early April.

Shark,
I see you are of the same vintage as me. Hughlysses is also. I really don't feel old and still have my hair. Can still crank off 30 pullups too. Refuse to give in to the years.

My wife sometimes rides her 1200 Sportster on trips with me but not this one. She informed me today that she wants to go to a beach some where and not by bike.

I want to go back to Yellowstone Park and spend a week there. It is absolutely a beautiful place and I want to see it again before the Yellowstone super volcano erupts. http://wyomingpublicmedia.org/post/scientist-talks -about-yellowstone-super-volcano

One other thing is that my 06' still has the original fan and it has never been a problem.

If you guys ever get to the Black Hills make sure you ride the hard packed gravel roads that crisscross the National Forest all over the place. Beautiful riding.

I did that on my Harley one year. Showed up in Hill City covered in dust!

I did find where they cut down a Christmas tree for Roosevelt! Nothing but the sign was left though! Never know what you'll find on the road less traveled!

Updated the "crank failure" table with your new milage, thanks, and congratulations on a rock solid Uly!

Smallmouth are fun to catch and release.

I do remember that a photo was taken of the first bass that was caught. My tournament fishing brother-in-law caught a small mouth that was smaller than the lure he used. He said not to be taking any pictures of it but my brother snapped a photo or two of that monster.

My brother rode with me on this trip but I came back and he stayed a few days longer and they rode up to my sister's cabin/house about 70 miles from Boise up in the mountains. I got an email from him yesterday that he had left Idaho early Monday to ride home only stopping for gas, food and monster energy drinks. He road his 2007 Harley Electraglide Classic 1510 miles in 22.5 hours. Now that is iron butting it to the max. I've done a 1000 miles in a day and I swear I was hallucinating by the time I got home. My brother said he seeing things towards the end of his ride home and I can see why. If any of you guys have ever done that many miles in less than a day I'd like to hear about it. My brother is 59 years old.

Can't say I've done that. I have done two 900 mile days. Each took over 15 hours. Grand Junction Colorado to Kansas City and Cheyenne, Wyoming to St. Louis. That last one my legs were cramping so I stopped in Columbia Missouri and went to a brewery. My intent was to get a room but after I had a beer. After two beers I felt better so I took off. Made it to St. Louis and the legs were cramping again. Went to another brewery, two beers later I'm back on the road. Just had another 20 miles to go. So who knew that beer relieves leg cramps!

I weigh about 215 lbs and most of it seems to rest on my ass. If it wasn't for the sheep pelt on those long trips I think the cheeks of my ass would spontaneously combust. I saw this thing on Gizmag and thought some variation would make a great means of varying the position of the legs on long trips. http://www.gizmag.com/noonee-chairless-chair-sitti ng-exoskeleton/33459/
