I'm sure it has been spoken, but what is the density of the fork oil, i'm not sure but i seem to remember healing it was 7,5, any one knows for sure the density? Thanks. Hope to be soon riding. | ||

Pontlee, I heard it was 10wt. I've read both numbers in different places. The bad thing about fork oil is it's not standardized like motor oil. A 10wt. Amsoil fork oil will be different from a 10wt. Harley oil. It's all apples and oranges. I think the type E harley is 10wt. and the Screaming Eagle oil is 15wt. I switched to Amsoil so I can compare the different weights but there are several good fork oil companies out there. Pick one and experiment. Probably start with 10wt. | ||

I am not sure what rating it has. It doesn't matter as those metrics are only useful when comparing fork oils from the same manufacturer. There is not a set standard for viscosity of fork oils that is being followed by any manufacturer. For example, I know that Bel-Ray 20W is equal to the HD Type E (per Bel-Ray). But if you like Maxima fork oil, you need their 10W (which they say is equivalent to Type E.) Roll the dice, my friend. | ||

I found an on-line chart comparing measured versus rated viscosities for fork oil a couple of years ago. It was very interesting- the numbers were wildly off brand-to-brand. If you're interested, it'll probably show right up with a google search. Last change I used what American Sport Bike sells and it seems to work fine. |
