Usually used for adjusting shock spring length and called a spanner wrench.

But you don't need it for an X or XT which has a hand-operated remote adjuster under the seat.

Actually this spanner wrench is for adjusting the rear spring preload. The shock damping is adjusted by the knob under the seat.

Alright, Vern, either you're getting oldtimer's disease or you haven't had your coffee yet this morning.

Shock damping is adjusted with a screw at the bottom of the shock and another at the remote reservoir under the seat on the right side of the bike. On the X and XT, the knob under the left side of the seat is a hydraulic adjuster for the spring pre-load. You don't need the tool in the pic to adjust the spring pre-load unless somebody has installed a shock from another XB model on your Uly.

Sorry Hugh.....At 11:24 PM I should have been in bed. Long day. I was indeed thinking of the one that I actually used on my City-X. Never even had my hands on the one that came with the Uly except to move it out of the way.

And.....yes.....I may have a remebry problem.....I don't recall.

What is the "rope wire" in the kit used for?

The figure 8 wire is used for locking your helmet to the bike

I feel cheated, there was no helmet lock wire in my Uly's tool kit... :-(
