I just ordered a set of Metzeler Tourance Next tires.

http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/products/tyres-cat alogue/Tourance-next.html?version=793953

I've had good luck with ME880 (radial version) on my S3T, getting about 10K+ miles on a set.

This is the first set of tires I've bought for the Uly.

The OEM Pirelli Scorpion Sync were about gone when I bought it at just over 2300 miles.

The previous owner gave me a set of Dunlop D616s that he said were "take offs." I installed the D616s at 3933 miles. I liked these tires and would have gone with another set but they are no longer available.

So here I am, 4918 miles later with a worn out rear D616. I have no idea how many miles were on them when I mounted them.

Anybody have any experience with the Metzelers? They were about the same price as the Pirelli Trails.

I need tires ATM also...I'm thinking Avon Distinzia...front and rear...anyone have any thoughts on these? I would fit a set of TKC 80s immediately if i thought they'd do well in the rain

Those Metzler tires you mentioned above are probably good tires...just don't look like they'd do well off pavement

I've been running Metzelers for years on other bikes. Looking forward to seeing how long they last you with the dual compound. Metzeler is owned by Pirelli but they seem to stay one step ahead sometimes.

Let us know how you like those Metzlers barry. They look like a decent option.

I'm really happy with both the stick and the wear of my Pilot Road 2's, but they are pricey.

Yo Barry,

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Michelin Pilot Road tires. They are on the 4th generation now, with each (since the 2nd generation) extending the tire life an additional (claimed) 20%. They are dual compound. Having longer-life tires saves money and hassle in the long run by not having to constantly replace shorter-life tires.

Friends have them and love them. They are supposedly superior in the rain. They might be a little pricier than most, but your bike only needs to go down once on cheap tires for the Michelin PR4's to already pay for themselves. Tires are not something worth skimping on.

I love my Michelin PR3's, going for the next generation when I replace.

I always liked my Dunlop D616's but I had a staple that ripped a 3/4" gash in the back tire so I had to change to the Dunlop Roadsmarts which I really like that dual compound tire so the following year I needed to replace my front D616 and I went with the matching Roadsmarts. I hate the tread on that tire because when I ride in the rain, the tread throws the rain water out in front of me and I get soaked! When I change tires next time, it won't be Roadsmarts!

Is the D616 truely gone out of production? Or just out of stock?

Glad to hear it Pontlee. Since this post appears to be completely unrelated to the rest of this thread, I'm assuming they've sent you home with potent pain medications.

So I still have a brand new D616 front to use up. No luck at all finding a Rear D616.

Any Suggestions as to what rear tire would work with the Front D616?

Donald, the Heidenau K73 might be a contender, if you don't mind running a 160/60 rear. I'm running a K73 up front, but haven't fitted one on the rear yet.

Metzeler Karoos look interesting, as well. They come in 120/70 front and 170/60 rear -- which is considered an acceptable tire for a 5.5" rim. Spendy, though.

Raycc1, that's a very nice price for the TA2s -- who did you get them from?

There was a thread here in March with a sealer on ebay having these tires. It was such a good deal my wife bought me a set out of the blue. I have about 600 miles on them so far and they seems ok.

I ran two sets of Avon Storms 2 and I got 6K out of each back tire before I bought the Conti's.

Ah, ok. I believe those are the original Trail Attacks, which I might pull the trigger on this summer.

I've had no luck finding anecdotal evidence of the TA 2's being improved enough to be worth the extra $$, ie: longevity and/or grip. The best I've come up with is the manufacture saying the TA 2 has a "new "Wet Grip" compound for superior wet grip and higher mileage."

Ray or Alan, I'm wondering if either of you could report the date code on those eBay tires?

I looked up the date code this morning and their date code said they were made in 2012, but I don't remember what week. Does that help you out any?

Thanks for checking for me, and indeed, it does help -- past experience has made me wary of rubber that's much more than 4 years old.

What a great bike!

I rode about 250 miles yesterday on my Uly with the new shoes -- Metzeler Tourance Next. They are really sweet on pavement, haven't been off paved roads yet.

Nothing like new tires!

Thanks for your initial impression of the Metz Tourance. Anyone else with experience with these or Conti Trail Attacks, or Distanza, or Karoos. I've been running PR2s and Scorpion Trails, and now needing a new set, and haven't decided on replacements.

I gotta say...for $219 shipped I could not be happier with these Trail attacks...Rode the bike to WV again last weekend and took some back hillbilly roads 2 up...gravel and hard pack dirt single vehicle roads...bike acted as if on pavement. Also got stuck in some serious storms on the way home...cars in front of me where hydroplaning hitting the water and the mighty Ulysses took it like a BOSS. I might even buy another set just to have at that price.

EDIT: the takeoff tires were D616 front and rear...and i find the Trail Attacks to be far superior tires as of now
