I took my bike 2006 uly in for another issue and when it was there they reflashed my computer. Since then it has been running hot as evidenced by my pipes turning blue and the fan running nearly constantly. I have also noted a fairly significant reduction in power at the top end. I asked them if they could set it back but they said that they couldnt. Is this true? Is there some other way to get this adjusted correctly? Any help that any of you might be able to offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks T3

As far as I am aware there was no ECM flash upgrade but I may be wrong. You could have re-flashed the program if it had been saved before doing it if not then no you can not.

Stock ecm? What would you need, the eeprom ,ulyman? Is that as simple as it gets, to reflash and return to ' stock '.

"Stock ecm? What would you need, the eeprom ,ulyman? Is that as simple as it gets, to reflash and return to stock". The first and MUST DO thing is the save a copy of your OEM map so that if you mess up changes you can return the ECM to stock IE Factory settings. Buell used there own system for this so I have no idea if what the say is true about flashing back to another map. If it is it must be something within there own system that is the problem IE Like EBR say.

What was the issue it went in for and what is the history of the bike?

Is the timing right?
Perhaps they overwrote a band-aid set by previous owner?

+1 on ignition timing? Significantly retarded timing will cause this issue. You wind up pumping still-burning fuel/air mixture out of the header pipes and you would definitely be down on power.

The issue may have nothing to do with the ECM.

I've owned her since she was new uly man. I've not done any mods to the engine or computer. it was in for, as embarrassing as this is, when I was replacing the battery I was sold one with poles reversed and I stupidly put it in without checking polarity. It blew a few fuses and a relay. They said that they are supposed to reset the ecm whenever they do a service. He equated it to basically zeroing it out so when the computer does its normal adjustments, it is starting from the proper place. I have very limited knowledge of such things.
I will definitely check the timing hughlysses. Thanks for the idea.

"He equated it to basically zeroing it out so when the computer does its normal adjustments, it is starting from the proper place". That would be a TPS reset and maybe the AFV as well. It is NOT a total ECM re-flash. If they did do that it is wrong nor was it needed. I guess it is also possible that the ECM or other part has been damaged by the reversed polarity.

Also, as a matter of interest, did the engine and frame get very hot all the time?

Yes the tank gets hot on long runs. Is a replacement ecm available and how much is it. I'm gonna check out the timing thing but if I decide to change the ecm how difficult would it be to put in an aftermarket ecm that is changeable (re mappable?) Sorry for all the questions and I really appreciate all of you for helping.
