There I was merrily cruising down the mountain road on my Uly in the dead of night when very suddenly and whilst negotiating a tricky bend at speed the lights went out. I managed to pull up without incident but sadly I had to throw my underpants in the hedge. By the light of a zippo I checked the fuse - OK abd both bulbs - Unblown. Pulled off the Flyscreen and checked connections - OK. FECK! Called the breakdown guy then and got a lift home. In the cold light of day I checked for wiring rubs... Nothing. Reversed the wire swap - No change. However, the sodding parking light works... Im stumped. Any ideas would be warmly recieved. I did do the headlight wire swap mod to get both lights at full beam but that was years ago. |

Use a circuit testing light and start checking for voltage from the fuse forward. |

Lucas was the prince of darkness...he also made British refrigerators...thats why they drink warm beer. I would open up the switch and make sure the contacts are not fried. |

My failing ignition switch caused intermittent head light outages ... try wiggling it, that's how I narrowed it down. |

Makes me shudder just reading about it. I'm glad you're o.k. I learned this the hard way: Just because a fuse looks good doesn't mean it is. Vibration can cause fuses to break in ways that can't be easily seen. So test it, swap it, regardless of how it looks. |

Could be several things. Although the XB's are well known for having their wires break inside the insulation around the steering head. Detecting the breaks can be tricky business because the break is intermittent and hidden inside the insulation. But it happens all the time, Ive read of many cases of it here. Buddy of mine with an '05 XB had his lights go out a few months ago. Turned out to be a broken blue wire around the headstock area. Try pulling on and wiggling the bundle by the steering head with the lights on and see if you can get it to come on, even if just intermittently. And of course check your grounds too. |

Check the ground wire on the steering neck behind the headlights.....that is what put mine out years ago. |
