Hi all I am currently in Afghanistan and need to order some parts. I dont have my parts catalog here. I have an 08 xb12x.. I need the front wheel bearing, rear axle and the rear metal space tube thing the rear axle slides through. I see on ebay the drag specialities front wheel bearing, are they any good? | ||

Michael- I don't have my parts book handy, but Twin Motorcycles, Badweb sponsor from the Netherlands, has put up on-line parts guides for Buell motorcycles here: http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/searchparts. asp You can find OEM part numbers in the listings. I don't know about the quality of the Drag Specialties bearings, but I'd guess they're decent. SKF and Koyo are two good bearing brands, but others may be just as good. The standard bearing number for the front wheel bearings is 6005 2RS. Of course you can just e-mail Al at American Sport Bike and he'll be glad to sell you everything you need at a decent price. | ||

Id definately go with Al. He will source the best combination of parts for you. That's where I got my "hot spare" bearings and spacers. | ||

I would be interested to know what is wrong with the rear axle that would require its replacement? Yes buy it all from AL. The front and rear wheel bearings are a standard size and you can buy them anyplace even there. | ||

I bought a spare rear spacer and spare rear bearings because I bought my Uly used, and do not know the history of rear wheel changes and if the factory torquing procedures were followed. They have sat in a box since, and have toured many interesting places in my right case "just in case". Haven't needed them yet. | ||

re my rear axle, when I changed my rear tire last time, I noticed as I was tightened the axle, the wheel would move in an upward motion that suggest it is not fully straight. | ||

It is backwards compatible, and I'd need to check to see if the XB 2 bearing axle is still available, I THINK it is obsolete, and we don't have any that I'm aware of (I'm at home at the moment). The 3 bearing axle works, but the 15 turns to get slack in the belt becomes quite a bit more. Al | ||

confirmed, the 2 bearing axle is obsolete, the 3 bearings axle is backwards compatible and supersedes it. We don't have any of the two bearing axles, but have a couple of the 3 bearing axles in stock. Front bearings, but rear bearing spacer? But also note that because of the taper, the wheel DOES move up as you tighten it as the taper moves through the bearing. So check it out, you might have a perfectly fine axle. | ||

the wheel DOES move up as you tighten it as the taper moves through the bearing VERY good point. As long as the wheel doesn't wobble as you screw the axle in, your axle is probably fine. It'd be hard to bend that axle without screwing up a bunch of other stuff. | ||

Well that explains that. Thanks. Im just going to get a new front wheel bearing as i have a new rear. When I get to 50k miles ill get the 2010 wheel. |
