I installed the 'comfort kit' this week. The scoop and the exhaust heat shield just took a few minutes but the fan shroud was a PITA. I have put about 150 miles on it since, and the fan hasn't come on once while riding, in the high 70's here. Did not do the ECM reflash and I don't plan to.

Good fun taking that seat pan out.

I did not flash the ECM then I took a 1800 mile trip last July. Halfway through and my right thigh had blisters. Stopped at a Harley dealer south of St. Louis and got it done. Only cost $50 and was the best money I spent the whole trip. The flash runs the fan while moving flushing the heat out the back. At least that's how it works in my '08.

krabykarl, I figure the two big scoops should flush the heat while I'm moving. Definitely some advice to ponder...........

Not if you have an inop fan acting as a dam by restricting airflow.

I think there's plenty of airflow at speed even without the fan running. The problem is that the fan restricts the airflow somewhat, forcing HOT air out of the holes in the top of the frame above the rear cylinder head. This HOT air comes out under the seat and much of it comes out of the gap between the bottom of the seat and the top of the right side frame rail. That's why your right inner thigh can get cooked.

I'm running an non-reflashed ECM on my 07 with the 09 engine, but one of these days I may spring for the flash. I can't wait to see the look on the guy's face when I explain "It's an 07 but it has an 09 engine, ECM and wiring harness in it".

"I figure the two big scoops should flush the heat while I'm moving". No they DO NOT and for lots of reasons. Been there done that and little effect of use.

"Did not do the ECM reflash and I don't plan to". Some years ago I made a big issue about this. Like "stupid this" and "HD after thought" and such but I was WRONG. The fan running "on the move" is NOT the whole story about this ECM update. It works well and makes a big difference to the heat management of the engine/ bike. I would get it done if it was me.

Anyone know the details of the reflash? I am quite some distance away from any dealer, and I kind of doubt the availability altogether down here in South America...

I have an EBR ECM on my Uly with much better fan logic, but a buddy of mine just got a 07 lightning with a stock ECM, and we'd like to fix this. (Fan on almost permanently, like it was on mine with stock ECM) He's getting the right side scoop now. Should be an easy ECMSpy/Tunerpro job, if the new settings are known?

I think the two scoops do help flush the heat out while moving - at least at highway speeds. Stop and go traffic? Not so much. I installed the comfort kit on my '06 and did not reflash the ECM and the fan doesn't come on nearly as much as it did without the comfort kit. As long as I keep moving above say, 40mph or so, that is.

General Ulysses, after a couple hundred miles of riding,I get the same result, no fan at highway speed.

What years was the flash for? Like to know what else is included as ive lowered my key on setting to 211°c from 220. As summer gets here ill lower it more, and just treat the fan as a expendable unit running it as much as needed. If that is just a part of the picture tho i would like to know.

Reflash only applies to 2008 and 2009 Ulys. 2006 and 2007 ECM won't support it; 2010's came with it from the factory.
