Has there ever been posted a list of the error codes?

Regarding error code lists -- I have shorted the pins on the comm connector to pull out the error codes via counting blinking lights.

I get codes 14 and 57.

I am getting check engine lights and a miss, stumble or cut out at the same time. The problem corrects in a few seconds and the engine runs more or less normally thereafter. The problem appears about 20 minutes into a ride and is intermittent. It tends to happen randomly but often in straight line travel on the level or downhill more often.

Could be electrical related to a short or fouled plug or fuel pump issue etc etc. It might be related to a fouled plug but it seems to run fine in between events.

I will have to look into the engine temperature sensor suggested by the code 14

The code 57 does not seem to be on the list and I do not know what to make of that.

Bike is a 2010 XP so there could be some differences in the ECM given the second O2 sensor etc. About 8k on the bike. There are no operational police lights etc because there is no control box.

That list is from '05 so it's not complete for newer bikes. Of course I have the '08 manual and it still only goes up to 56 which is for the crank position circuit. Did you do the count a few times to be sure? Hopefully someone has the latest manual to see if there are now more numbers.

On the '10, 57 = Fuel Rail System Pressure - Too Low

Possible Causes (from manual)

Low or Contaminated fuel
Low fuel pressure
Fuel pressure sensor malfunction
Fuel pump malfunction
Restriction in fuel system

Yes, I did the counts several times to be sure. The tank is full the last time it happened so it is not low fuel.

Gamdh, Low fuel pressure could be it. I ran out of gas last fall or seemed to. I did not note a fuel light and it stalled out. More gas corrected the problem but I was suspicious why I did not note a fuel light.

There could be a connection. The '10 has a different fuel pump from the earlier models I believe. It might connect with the problem not happening on uphill grades. It also could be that the engine is running a bit lean and hot resulting in the code 14. I think I will put in some fuel treatment pronto as a first step.

Maybe there is more I could do.

Gamdh, I have the shop manual for the '10 but I did not see the codes in it. If you have a list it would be good to have. Thanks for the info.

Codes are in the Electrical Diagnostic Manual. IIRC For my '06 both manuals are in the same book at some point they separated into 2 manuals...

As for the codes.. I"ll see what I can figure out.. there are about 2 1/4 pages worth.

Thanks very much. I am going to print that out and stash it in the shop manual I keep in the saddle bags.

I have added some fuel treatment (K100) and I will ride it a few days and see how that goes.

Thinking back to the out of gas situation, the gas I added was pretty old. I added just enough to get running and then went directly to the pump to fill the tank with fresh gas hoping that would help make up for the older gas. I thought I had dodged a bullet but I guess it winged me.

If you don't have an active CEL, then the codes are stored which means you're right, it's from your earlier problems. If it remains inactive, the codes will clear themselves in something like 50 run/stop cycles. Not sure of the exact count but something like that.

Regarding clearing the codes on the 2010 Uly, might the VDSTS diagnostic kit clear old codes?

I am pretty sure it could clear codes on earlier model years but I don't hear much about it now that TPS calibration on the newer bikes can be done without it.

Further to my intermittent CEL and power loss on 2010 XP:

I have replaced the plugs, closely examined the ECM and used a couple tanks of conditioned fuel but still the problem remains.

I see a lot of postings related to grounds. I removed the ground cable from the negative battery terminal. I will be clean it up a little and reinstall.

My one discovery was that the main battery cable to ground (-) at the chassis was underneath 2 other ring connectors. I am guessing that these may be related to the wiring harness for the police electrics. I think the battery cable should be directly connected to the chassis and then above it should be the other 2 cables. Can anyone confirm?

I see in some pictures from the parts manual that there may be a star washer between the frame and the cable but this is missing on this bike. I may add the star washer later if the ground proves to be the problem.

Next question, I do not see a ground lug in the headlight area of the 2010? Maybe I missed it or maybe it is not needed?

I have 2 codes 14 & 57 within about 20 minutes of riding. After cleaning up the grounds I will see what might be involved with the engine temperature sensor if I can find it.
