Here is a helpful method to getting that seal where it is supposed to go so that the oil seal stopper ring can be installed in its rightful groove.

1)Lube up the slider fork leg which is #27 on your service manual front fork assemble drawing. Also lube up all the inside of #18 outer tube where the seal will be driven into eventually. #21 slide bushing should be lubed and put in place on the #27 slider fork leg. All the following will then be slid down over the #21 slide bushing and that is a good reason everything needs to be well lubed.

2)Slide the new dust seal down the slider fork leg.

3)Slide the #25 oil seal stopper ring down the slider fork leg.

4)Slide the new #24 oil seal down the slider fork leg. The little bumps on the one side should be facing towards the dust seal.

5)Slide the #23 seal spacer down the slider fork leg.

6)Slide the #22 guide bushing down the slider fork leg.

7)Push the well lubed slider fork leg up into the #18 outer tube far enough so the #21 slide bushing is well past where the #22 guide bushing will end up residing in the outer tube.

8)Slide the #22 guide bushing and the #23 seal spacer up into the #18 outer tube. Use the seal driver to help them into place. It is much easier to position this #22 guide bushing and #23 seal spacer into place without trying to do the #24 oil seal at the same time. Take my word for it.
Once that is done then get the seal driver re-positioned under the new oil seal.

9)Push the oil seal up the slider fork so that you can finish knocking it into place with the oil seal driver until you can see the groove in the outer tube where the #25 oil seal stopper ring will be place.

10.) Install the #25 oil seal stopper ring.

I've found that the seal can be a beyatch to drive if you try knocking all three parts home at once. Instruction #8 should be followed to make this process easier.

EG97, Thanks but you're a little late! I replaced my seals and changed over to Amsoil Synthetic Fork Oil just a few days ago. And, you are right, the seals were a little hard to drive in the way I did it. Take care.

Last time I did it, I wrapped about a 3/16" layer of electrical tape on the tube and pushed the seal in with my belly.
