Long 7 day trip on the Uly. Cold and windy but not rainy. Engine light came on a few times at Continental Divide and may have been low octane gas. Probably Oxygen sensor out of range in the high altitude but that is just a guess. Usually use ethanol blend but after the light appeared I switched to premium and ran without trouble the rest of the trip. Did burnout the right headlight and blew the right front seal sometime on the trip. MPG economy was real good but even better on the was back and was getting about 50 to 51 mpg. Bike now has about 43,000 miles on it. Usually cruising about 70 to sometimes 80 mph most of the trip without a problem. Overall good trip but a bit chilly all over the country I traveled through. Put my rain suit on over my normal riding gear and that was a life saver otherwise I'd have froze solid. |

My 06' ULY is still on the original fan. I must have gotten the pick of the fan litter. I also started out the trip with a brand new Pilot Road 3 on the rear wheel. Great tire so far. Maybe should have sprung a few extra bucks for the PR4 since they claim 20% better miles out of the tire. The Pilot 2 that I replaced had life in it but the tread pattern is missing from the middle of the tire which makes wear hard to discern. I don't like having to worry about tire wear on a long haul so I put on the new PR3. It has a nice groove pattern across the tire center so you can easily see if the tire is getting worn out. |

Cool, or on second thought, maybe too cool! I agree on the Pilot Road 3, a great tire. I have a new set of tires in waiting but I can't wear that rear out! Also agree with you on rain gear for the cold. That saved me years ago and has been a go-to ever since. Glad the trip went well. |

for cold I have aerostich airvantage heated liner.. plugs in for heat AND has a bladder you blow up to put the heating element next to body, air bladder works as insulation, TOASTY!..no need for layers..

One of the best things I ever bought was a Widder heated vest, right before a cross country trip to Colorado in October, 20 years ago. I would never not own one. That Aerostitch vest with the air bladder sounds like a great idea. I have a set of Polly Heaters sitting on my workbench. I`ll install them...............someday. I`ll be looking at those tires when my 616s wear out. Sounds like a nice trip, glad to hear you had a safe ride with no major breakdowns. I have not been so lucky with my `06. But have fixed just about all the known quirks. Anyone know if Widder is still in business? |

I agree with you on heated gear, Motorfish. My Gerbing liner and gloves make all the difference in cold weather. |
