Now that my '08X has been lowered 1" it's time to turn my attention to the kickstand. It's too wobbly and I should shorten it. Open to all suggestions I'm sure it's been done before. | ||

I raised my wife's blast and a local muffler shop extended the kick stand for me. I do use them a lot at the dealership I work for and they bank with my wife. But you should be able to find someone to shorten it and weld it for you. | ||

Or maybe find a XT stand, would probably work just fine. probably a used one floating around from a parted out bike. | ||

Shagg, I have a mig welder and have considered cutting out a section and welding in sleeve. Satori, I did not think about an XT stand being shorter. That would be the best route in case I want to go back to stock height. Anyone have a part number for the XT stand? | ||

i just did mine yesterday...cut 1/2" off the bottom and rewelded the plate on...Done. | ||

I would cut it in the center then find a piece or machine a piece of material to work as inside coupler and then weld it back together. If you do this tho, make a reference mark as the direction of the kickstand shoe to the mounting bracket. | ||

cutting it in the center is a lot harder than taking it off the bottom. | ||

i cut the kickstand in the center too for my wife's bike. it made sense to me. but if you wanna put a larger plate on the end, that'd give you a bigger 'footprint' for loose gravel/mud | ||

Turf, I used the Hyperpro lowering spring in back and slid the fork tubes up 25mm in front. Jury is still out on the front if I'm going to stay that way or get the Hyperpro lowering fork springs. The steering seems to be a bit slower though I still have a lot of adjusting to do. I set the entire suspension back to the recommended settings for 180-200lb load. I really like the way it sits now. I'm a little over 5'8" and with the low seat and my thicker soled boots I'm completely flat footed. Amazing how much more confidence inspiring it is. Rainy day again today. I'll get some pics tomorrow. | ||

They are very tall standard, but I'm 6ft, although slightly disproportionately long in the trunk. Any shorter and I would do this too. If you manage to put photos up I will look. For me the ideal height for a Buell would be the 12STT. Very few around. As things have panned out, I don't use the Ulysses for touring. I use a JILF, so a STT would be ideal for the back roads in southwest Portugal. The Ulysses will suffice, though. | ||

I bought the Ulysses for it's versatility. That and I got a screaming deal on it. Initially I had not intended to tour on it then I got a wild hair and bought hard bags. Last summer I made an 1800 trip from the east coast to the Mississippi and back. For touring I use the regular seat for around town I like the low. | ||

just wanted to say that taking the length off the bottom seemed the way to go for me ...because then you dont need to slug it. Butt welding the middle together would call for a slug to e put in...more work...more weight. I took a half inch and the bike sits at the perfect angle now...This after new hyperpro lowering springs forks and shock | ||

I ended up going Rayycc's route and cut the end off. Hot asphalt season is coming and I wanted a bigger foot anyway.  | ||

Dinged the frame puck. Had it up on the jack and I said to myself, "Yanno it's gonna slip off the jack when you pull the spring." Out smarted myself again. At least I got the required one tip over out of the way.  | ||

Pikachu is protecting the nose of my wife's car from hitting the bathroom door. Nova and lift were gifts from myself to myself. | ||
