well ... actually, it doesnt at all : ( and this is the third one that's quit on me!

i don't know why these things crap out seemingly frequently.
the original one was right after i fixed a rocker box leak, the second one was a 'used' fan with unknown history/mileage. it popped the 10A and a few 15A fuses, so i took it apart and found melted plastic and wiring at the connections for the brushes
this last one is another 'used' one but was from a low mileage 06 IIRC. it has minimal oil exposure from PCV/rockerbox gromets and no current passes across the leads.

now the temps are finally getting warm enough to enjoy riding more but i don't wanna boil the oil

i have thoughts of re-using the housing and epoxying a computer fan in place, but i doubt it will fare any better than the SPAL.
anybody have one for a fair price?
how about Frankensteining an 1125 fan to fit? would EBR be able to assist the XB riders in this area? or would Twin be able to pick up the slack?

"i don't know why these things crap out seemingly frequently". They do not as far as I have seen but once oil gets on them the extra load could well crap them out very soon. It is a "no load" motor like the fan you suggest using.

I would say the first went because of the oil, the second because it was bad and the third for maybe oil again. I know it is money but I would buy a new one and be done with it. I would.

My 06 has over 30k on it. My fan has made a little bit of a rattling/growling sound for about the last 20k miles...I finally stopped carrying my NOS replacement with me every trip, because the sound never changed.

And the fan continues to work fine.

+1 on the new fan vs. used.

Some used parts are absolutely fine to put on your bike (i.e. footpegs, plastic, seats, etc.)

Electrical parts, wear items, etc. unless new in the bag, are not parts I'm usually willing to take a chance on buying used, or worth spending time, money, or effort on to replace, only to soon spend time/money/effort on replacing again shortly afterward.

My 06 Uly fan is original with 42,500+ miles on it. No rattling either. The spal fan on the EBR 1190RX might be the same as the ULY fan. Not the bracket that holds the fan but just the fan. This fan would be able to be had from a 1190 dealer and then just swap the brackets.
