An oily, dead fan has forced me to stop procrastinating on replacing rocker box gaskets.

For quite some time, there has been the tiniest bit of weeping at the pushrod covers -- just enough to creep up and collect a bit of dust, not enough to get shiny.

Unless this is a harbinger of trouble, I'm inclined to leave them alone and just do the rocker boxes. I welcome opinions/advice on the matter:

Recently did work on my '06, my pushrod cover gaskets looked like yours by 93k. They are a pressure fit only and oil will eventually seep through I guess. Mine were still pliable and since the Cometic Complete Engine Gasket set wasn't so complete by not including these I cleaned them up real well and stuck them down with a light coating of Permatex Ultra Black both under the gasket and in the trough on top. Seems to work well although I've only put about 50 miles on the bike since, twisted an o-ring at the top and I'm in it again as we speak.

If you can live with just cleaning it up that's what I'd do if you're only doing rocker box gaskets. Replacing the bottom gaskets involves pulling the heads, then your base gaskets need replacing, etc., LOTS more work. Also, the factory 17059-02B Top End Overhaul Set is quite good with improved head gaskets, rocker cover screw gaskets (no more little paper rings), and includes new bottom pushrod tube gaskets. 17596 here: http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/5935 but I'd check with Al to make sure.

Thanks, Dean. I'll be tucking into it this weekend.
