Good day, I've recently replaced the ECM and battery on my Uly and also purchased the CMI lite tool from EBR. I cleared all of the historic codes and also reset everything back to factory default. How long does it take the bike to "learn" to run right again?

The bike continuously learns to adapt to various conditions when in closed loop mode, there is no set timeframe. Just ride it.

They used to say that it needs to run above 3000 RPM for a few miles to learn.

My '06 will run really spunky awesome if I crank it at 4000+ RPM on some twisted back roads for twenty miles or so. It will come out of that just wanting to fly.

If I just cruse at lower RPMs for long periods, it will be happy to cruise at lower RPMs.

so when installing an aftermarket exhaust...is a reflash of some sort necessary or will the ECU adjust accordingly?

The ECM can learn up to a certain grade but an open flow exhaust will require a reflash and adding a K&N air filter.

When i installed the Jardine in the past the bike run fine but i was advised to remap the ecm to prevent problems in the long term.

The stock fuel map is fairly lean from the factory to meet EPA, it is not ideal even for the stock muffler. Running an aftermarket or modified exhaust system makes this worse, and at best the ECM would compensate to stock levels, but even that is not always possible.

A remap or Race ECM is recommended regardless of what exhaust you have, and while it won't be ideal, changing exhausts to one different than what the Race ECM was programmed for won't be bad like it is if you run a stock ECM with an aftermarket exhaust.

What Froggy said.

The DDFI-2 system on the 06 bikes seems, to me anyway, to work slower to adapt to air temperature than the later DDFI-3 version. But the DDFI-3 is not super fast either. I get it on a run to work, with the 10 bike, if it is cold in the morning (and had been warm the previous day) and warmer coming home. I get the odd exhaust "pop" from my Stealth can but after 5 odd miles it has sorted itself out and is fine.

The main thing is that you MUST do a TPS reset after fitting a new ECM on the 06 bikes as the new ECM will NOT KNOW the position of the TPS. Unless you flashed your old ECM map to the new ECM of course.
