Well OK, not exactly run but... I don't make a habit of this kind of stuff but I went out for a bit today warming up the bike so I could change the oil. Coming towards home I went over the speed limit by 20mph (at least) This is on an interstate BTW. Anyway, I know this road very well, I spot a trooper in the opposite lanes and I know three things instantly; 1. He's got me on the radar, I could see him looking right at me as we met... 2. He passed the closest emergency turn around about a mile ago and there's a cable fence in the median. 3. It's about a mile to the next exit which gives me 4 options as to how I'm going to get home.

I slowed down to 10 over and then tooled on home by the most direct route I could find, hoping he wasn't too irritated... I was also hoping it wasn't my neighbor the State Patrolman... got home and the neighbors cruiser is in the driveway. I guess he's working the night shift again. But I'll bet I hear about it at some point, not too many Barricade Orange motorcycles around here. I probably should have kept the camo paint set.

I did it unintentionally one time. I was on a rural interstate running my bike 118 MPH, it's advertised top speed. A half mile from the exit for my home was a state trooper with radar gun set up reading a news paper.

I looked in his eyes as he looked over the top of his paper. He watched me go by and never even moved. I signaled my intent, zipped off the ramp and rode legal speeds the two miles home. I could not believe he never moved. Must be he did not want to be disturbed or he was on a break, because I drove my car back by a few minutes later and he was still reading his paper.

I've been told they can't get us all.

Not actual cops...but worse. I was stationed at Ft Campbell Ky in 1986 ...a friend and i just passed thru the MP gate and got up to speed...like 60 in a 35 and passed an MP car going the opposite direction ...saw them spin around and hit the lights and we nailed it...Got far enough ahead to turn into the base hospital and parked the bikes between two vans...watched as the Mps went flying by in hot pursuit...the proceeded in the opposite direction. ...Oh...to be 18 and dumb again.

Ran quite a few times in the 1970s. It was fun until one night I finally got caught.
Patrol car hit me so hard my bike stuck upright in his grill. They proceeded to club my ass but good.
Seemed like a deserved, grown-up spanking at the time.
I still remember all the neighbors out in their pajamas watching.......

Just over a year ago I was going to meet Crusty at a rest area just south of my home to ride to the NY IMS together. I had just entered the parkway and hit about 80 (limit 55) when I spotted a trooper 1/4 mile ahead on the shoulder. Needless to say I cut the throttle to make it look like I was just cruising when I got close to him. As I was going past his car he gave me a little blip of the siren just to let me know he was watching but luckily didn't think it was worthy of making a stop. Whew!

There's this nifty twisty road just a couple miles from my house, no matter where I ride I get to take it to get started. The speed limit's 35. Nobody with a soul would ride a Uly 35 on this road. So a couple of years ago I came over this rise, a cop was coming from the other direction. I grabbed the brake and looked down and the speedo said 60 so I was probably at 70 before I grabbed the brake. The cop's lights went on, I pulled over....and waited...and waited...and waited. Hmmm...well I rode away. He probably figured I got the message. Or else the donut shop was about to close.

All I am going to say is if there is a chance to get away I will. Do not get many (knock on wood)as most of the time they just flip the light to say "Slow down" and keep going. I think its the crotch rockets they like to ticket not Adv bikes.

Only once when I was about 17 or so (Waaaay back in the early 70's). Two of us on our motocrossers heading out to practice.
Heading through our neighborhood (quietly) on the way to the trail to the riding area. Officer Douchman (as we called him) jumped us and gave chase. Headed across the ball field and up the hill. Stopped at the top, he was heading up the hill! Took off across the hay field towards the RR tracks (maybe about 1/3 mile), look back he's still coming! Both of us jump the unimproved ag RR crossing (the rails are not covered in any way, full height).
Officer Douch tries to follow us. Things didn't go well for him. He ripped off the entire undercarriage including the oil pan and front cross member. He was center hung on the rails, had to call a tow truck to get off the rails.
We stopped about 100 yards away in the plowed field and laughed at him. We took off to the practice area and got in a good workout, on the way home we stashed our bikes at a friends. We rode the bikes home after dark that evening.
Might be why that prick pulled us over all the time for the next year.

Interesting story about this story a number of years later. Turns out this incident followed officer Douch for his entire career! Coworkers teased him about it at his retirement a number of years ago.
Found this out from a coworker who's husband is a current LEO on the same force! From what she told me the story was legendary and everyone always wondered who the "kids" that got the best of the Douch were. We were kind of folk heros for the folks on the force that had to put up with him.

"From what she told me the story was legendary and everyone always wondered who the "kids" that got the best of the Douch were."

Small world, Brad. Did anyone ever let the cat out of the bag?

Y'all are (or were, back in the day) a wilder bunch than I'd guess.

This thread reminds me of some classes I'd had with mi amigo in FL. He may have had (ok, totally had) more "street cred" with some of the court-ordered students than I ever did. One question that would come up was "so, what if I run?". The response would always be, "well, had one student that did that, and Mr. popo met him in his driveway. You are never gonna be faster than the radio".

Carry on...

A group of my buddies and I out ran the Pa State Troopers on snomobiles back when you could not ride them on the road at all legally. But that was easy at night, with him in a patrol car, and us having a couple of feet of snow and open country to work with.

Except for the fact that they were asking around for who all was in that group for a couple of weeks, I did not even think that would count.

BeLinda, as far as I know the secret is safe. Besides I'm pretty sure the statute of limitations has long since expired!
Still get a kick out of that one after all these years. Reminds me, I gotta call the "Houf" (my partner in crime) haven't talked to him in a while.

The Baltimore City Police have a very clear policy prohibiting pursuit of illegal dirt bikes. Reason being bad things happen to innocent people. Just look at those clowns they don't care about their own safety much less the seven kids waiting on the corner for the bus when they ride up the sidewalk escaping from the cops.

The cops know about this tradition of stunt riding on this street and are there to observe in force. Cameras in their hands, cameras on the street lamps. All this data gets organized and filed. They know who these riders are, their street names, the type of bike they ride, the gang they are in, the corners they hang out on, who their baby mommas are and where they work if they have a job.

Trust me these cops don't take kindly to these morons showing them up. It might take a week of so but they will see one standing around on a street corner. When this happens they will search them and find something. If they don't have anything on them the cops will make something up. Either way they will go to jail, might be for a few days or might be for months.

Oh and if the cops can't find them they can always count on Darwinism.

Amen to Darwinism! What a bunch of asshats. Nice to know they give all riders a bad name with that crap.

Well not exactly run from, but me and two best friends were going from Las Vegas to Tulsa and had to make it in a day and a half. It is about 1,250 miles.

We were hauling butt through Albuquerque, NM on I-40 doing about 90 when we passed a photo radar truck with a mast-mounted camera. Was too late to slow down so we just looked at each other, shrugged and kept the power rolled on. Figured it was just the cost of doing business.

Got home a week later and waited for the tickets to roll in. None of us ever got one. When I thought about it, figured they could not see our plates cause we were all on Harley touring bikes with tour paks.

Sometimes you just get lucky.
