For the shock spring, you'll need a way to compress the spring. It's easy to replace once you can do this.

Just got a spring myself. Have to get my comfort kit out of the way before removing the shock. Anyone know if a simple strut compressor will suffice?

I got mine from EPM
http://www.epmperf.com/
Spoke and exchanged emails with the owner Klaus several times concerning if the 07 shock was the same as 08. Seemed like a decent guy who cared.

"expensive". I do not agree. This is the RIGHT and ONLY way to lower your bike correctly. Anything else is just asking for trouble.

I agree and this is exactly why i went this route. It felt expensive...maybe since i just shelled out $5100 for the bike and $1000 for gas and hotels to get it LOL...Its totally worth it to me to lower the bike correctly so that i feel safer on it. I can ride it as is...but would not like to think about emergency stops like it is...i want to be able to get a foot down when i need to

It is a bit like life, Ray. While you can "get away" with many things some others just need to be "right". And a bike needs to be right.

I have an 06 uly and I bought a used 06 xb1200x rear shock from someone out here a couple yrs ago for $75. I recently took it to my favorite suspension rebuilder in South St. Paul. For about $150 he cut down and powder coated the spring. Then he put a larger stopper inside the shock, effectively shortening the shock 3/4ths of an inch.
I'm really pleased with how it turned out. It looks great on the bike!

new shock

maybe the XT would have been the best option.

Since we are posting photos of lowered shocks. Got my Hyperpro spring on. My auto strut compressor would not fit between the coils so I used the ratchet strap method. A little bit scary yet not even close to the stupidest thing I have ever done.

Slid the forks up the triple tree (I know Ulyman not the right way). I'm going to try it and if I don't like the handling I'll dial up EDP and get fork springs. Only went for a quick trip up my street and it feels a lot different. Snow and cold came back, hoping this weekend I can give it a decent test.

I'm 5'8 1/2" and now with low seat I'm just about flat foot with tennis shoes. My thick riding boots should be just right. I actually slid the forks a bit too far. Right now they are 28mm up. I'm going to back them off to 25mm. This is with 1" bar risers.

Rayycc, I bought my bike last April. I was going to lower it right away but decided to give it a years test first. Came to the conclusion it needed to be done. Sooner or later I was going to come to a panic stop and be forced to put a foot down in a low spot.

I never got the fork springs, the changes to geometry are minimal. Statistically, using the ratchet straps to compress the spring maims more folks! I was going to recommend that method to you, but thought twice. Ha.

Still have not been able to ride mine. Rain, rain, rain now snow and sleet. I sure don't make for a bad weather biker....
Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 60 but it's opening day and I'll be worshiping the baseball gods in the upper deck.
