Might have to wait twenty years or so.

Maybe...Maybe not...regardless, it's one of the best values for a big bore adventure touring bike on the market right now.

I certainly hope so. I have an 07 that I bought new in late 08 and had tried to sell since I got sick and no longer ride. 14k miles on it I think. I have it sitting on blocks in a windowless basement for a few years now. Don't feel like taking a 5 thousand dollar loss for riding a bike for about a year. Maybe in twenty years.

They may someday be worth more (dollars). But, the dollars almost certainly will be worth less.

The chance of any mass pro bike being worth a "life changing" amount of money, are slim and none.

For a kick I looked up the KBB price on '06 Uly:

Trade-In Value in Good Condition $3,245
Suggested Retail Value Excellent Condition $4,720
I'd rate my Uly in GOOD PLUS condition.

Im 59 so maybe my grand kids will benefit from the Buell being classic someday…Why do BMWs always seem to be in demand at what would seem to be too much money..even the 1970s up till now?
Im thinking the Buell will have a place up there too? Maybe?

If there was ever a Buell designed for riding rather than pampering the Uly is it. Too many were made for it ever to be worth significant money and the cost of keeping them in bearings would probably outweigh any gain!

Having said that...... in 20 years time finding one that has never been dropped with an unblemished frame might be a challenge.

All vehicles will eventually become collectibles - and even some day become priceless. Not sure when that'll happen for the Uly. Although I'm figuring in the year 2378, this car will finally have its day...

I keep telling my eldest son(a HD owner) that my Uly will eventually become the Vincent Black Shadow of his grand children's generation. The kids will be saying things like "Grandpa may have looked cool on his Ultra, but GREAT Grandpa REALLY WAS cool on his ULY!". "Look he was fully loaded for a 1,500 mile, five day camping trip, at 60 years old, doing a wheelie!"

Rumors will abide about the Uly's legendary handling, ride-ability, and all around awesomeness. An entire generation will be looking around garages and barns to find Erik Buell's first true crowning achievement. They will all be in search of their generation's version of unobtanium....."Permagrin". It will come at a hefty price.

That is my story, and I'm sticking to it!

The value of mine is not going up. But then historically by the time I get done with a motorcycle there isn't much left.

Given that the 2010s were sold for about $7k brand new, a 2.21% loss of value after 4 years is amazing. Good luck finding anything else with a motor that doesn't drop to about half in that timeframe!

But it still begs the question..Why to BMWs no matter the year..air head oil head whatever seem to hold there value or go up..I like the bikes don't get me wrong,,but I think we the private sector are selling the ULYs to cheaply..just a thought..we now have 8 inches of new snow on the ground today..

I mean I almost was going to pay 7500 dollars for a 2008 BMW GS1100 with 85k miles..was I being brainwashed by the prices of other BMWs on the web?

I'll have to check the invoice. cant remember back that farbut surley was well more than 7K and I called around to many of the dealer to find a yellow XT. Then I had three all about the same price, then it came down to distance.

Here's my opinion, based on other collectable items I've shopped around for. The cost of a used Uly is about as low as it'll go now - unless it's a beater. Newer bike shoppers don't want it due to parts/support, and it's not old enough to be a collector yet. However, starting this yr I predict, you'll see our Ulys slowly start inching up in price. I think they're a unique piece of motorcycle history and are still very relevant today. A great combination in my book. And as more of them are taken out of service, supply n demand will bring those prices up even more. But it's going to take more than a few yrs. IMHO

My opinion is that they will not and very few bikes do anyway. On the other hand given what you will pay for a Uly now you will lose very little on the bike in the coming years. I have been looking at the prices on the UK market and over the past five years they have been very stable. Lots of reasons for that but mostly because a used Uly is amazing value for money over just about any bike in its class. And yes it may need a little sorting but so do many bikes including the much vaunted BMW GS.
