Looking to buy my first Buell, an XB12X to be precise. I have an eye on an '08 on CL for $3500. He's willing to take $3000, but I am trying to get him to $2500. It seems to be missing a few things. Is this a good buy?

Without luggage and 40,000 miles, I would say it is an average buy at best. Just my $0.02.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I've been looking into aftermarket options for luggage, and it doesn't seem so good. Can't find any stock hard cases from my searching.

$3000 would be tempting. Have you test rode it?

Hepco and Becker can set you up with racks, side and topcases.. You'll have over $1000 in it if you go that route but then you can use the smaller 30L cases or the larger 42L cases, your choice plus up to 52 liters in the top case selection.

I'd offer 2500 and show him the cash, I wouldn't go higher. I'm not an expert, lots of others are but I did some research before buying my 09 for $4500 with all the extras, Laminar lip, full luggage, Drummer exhaust, K&N filter, EBR Race ECU, new tires, and 20,000 miles. Very happy with that deal.

BTW, there's an 07 in the classifieds on this board, has 31K all the luggage and a bunch of goodies besides. For $3750.

So H&K is still doing the luggage? I will have to contact them.

I will wait and see if he accepts my offer. I am definitely not going any higher, partially because he's being terribly disrespectful.

Also, I am somewhat concerned about the bike missing pucks and a beak. He says he has Barkbusters for the bike to replace the missing stockers. I'm not really willing to drive the 2 hours to go see it only to find out it has damage, even though the pictures don't seem to hint at any damage.

Here are the racks you'd need. They say any of the bags they build will fit.

"He's willing to take $3000, but I am trying to get him to $2500". That is just a joke. Even at $3000 you would make money on breaking it down for just its parts.

$3000 is £1800 in the UK and you can not buy a "busted wheel" for that money here. My advice, if it is a solid bike, would be to get there quick before someone else does.

Maybe not though as I have made an offer for that price to ship to the UK.

Regarding luggage, you could also spend ~$500 on the Givi compatible racks from Twisted Throttle.

Used Givi bags are plentiful, or you could get them new from SportTour in Ohio. Good prices and free shipping in the US.

The lack of pucks is actually good in this case, you can clearly see it has not been crashed. I've seen plenty of bikes with crash damaged covered up by pucks.

Regarding luggage, the stock luggage (both racks and bags) is still available from any Buell dealer if you don't find what you want aftermarket or used.

actually all HB bags don't fit the same racks..I have the 2nd version Uly specific bags and they latch at the front of bag. most other HB bags latch at the rear. I think the first Uly's came with the generic bags and mounts then later models use the newer version bag designed just for Buell?

That may be Foto... I was referring to the racks they sell currently. According to the website they will work with any of the bags currently offered.

I'll have to check mine later but I believe they latch at the rear. They're the Uly XP model bags..

Mine are the XT version maybe that's the difference.. the ones that latch at the rear are what my Guzzi has and I think they are a better design, tho might be a little smaller. I have both 30 and 40 ltr for the Guzzi. I kind of wish they would interchange but not enough to replace the mounts I have now on the Uly.

Sheesh! now I'm thinking I should get the 42 liter Journey bags and have the plastic panel painted Barricade Orange!

I have the OEM cases for my bike but I do NOT rate them highly. It is just my opinion. I find them a weedy build (brittle plastics), they leak as not 100% waterproof and the locks/ mounts are not strong enough which is why many people put a strap through the handles. The Buell HD system is well over priced even used.

I would use the GIVI/ KAPPA system. You can still buy the side frame for the Uly at a good price. Or you could just buy a pair of universal Monokey or Monolock mounts and make your own frames out of 10 mm tube. The other thing is with GIVI/ KAPPA system you have a vast range of case choices IE Size and shape. You can get spares, like lock sets, easy and are cheap enough. Service is very good as well.

I have just bought this used but in new condition KAPPA travel case and a brand new Monokey universal mounting plate for my other bike. Total price $70. The bag alone used to cost $215?

I bought the complete HB set up last summer. Spent a little over $1100 if memory serves including shipping. 42L Journey side cases and 52L top case. Makes the bike look fat a$$ but I don't care. Practicality matters to me more, if I wanted to look cool I'd be riding a chromed out Harley like everyone else. BTW, I bought my '08 with 2300 miles last April for $4500.
