Both sets of shinkos I've run seem to have a weaker carcass than the Dunlops or Pirellis or Michelins I've spooned on/off... which makes them easier to spoon on/off ; )

Although shinkos give me poor feedback and the rears loose their profile after a few thousand miles ;(
they do last and seem to be an appropriate 'daily driver' tire

I would find on my bikes of the past that most rubber would "go off" well before they wore out. That is that the "feel" of them would not be as good as they wore down. Now I do not know if it is modern rubber or the Uly but rubber feels good though out its life on this bike.

My OEM Scorp Syncs were changed at 7500 miles and had 2mm front and 2mm rear tread, in the center part, left on them. A rear Road Pilot 2 has about 6mm of tread from new. You may well get, given the numbers, 11k miles if you run them to bald and about 9K miles with 1mm left. 2mm is low enough for me though as I prefer a safety margin on wet roads.

UK prices for Road Pilot 3s £230 = $378. Your rubber seems a lot cheaper.

I have been running Michelin road 3 front and rear. I am very happy with the wear. had 15k on the last set. Ran them down to the tread bars. Nice and sticky in the corners too.

Uly_man, The PR3's are not much cheaper in the states. I just looked for my own interest, fronts are reasonable at $157 compared to $142 for the Angel. The shocker was the rear, $316 compared to $200 for the Angel. Why so much more for the rear I don't understand. Plus I compared the "E" spec Angel to the "B" spec PR3 which should be apples to apples. At just over 50% more that's a little tough to swing for one maintenance item.

Just bought the PR3 rear off Amazon for $160, free shipping. However, my local HD shop wants $160 for installation.

Yep, that's the vendor I went through on Amazon. All the other tires mentioned here were around the same price also.

$160 for install??? Holy shhite on that one. That has to be thier way of saying "We don't want to do it."

Take the wheel off yourself and take it to a local MC dealer. Probably get charged $15-$20. I've been taking wheels off and having a local guy swap the tires for years now.

What he said. I've got spoons and I've replaced tires on my old S3T before. The rear was tougher than the front but if you're not experienced with tire irons you should at least be able to pull the wheel and get it to a dealer...

Stealth - Funny you should mention that. My bike was in their shop for five weeks while they were troubleshooting my rotor/stator/CEL issue (long story...). I'll just say I was less than patient when checking on the progress. And I thought it was a bit too much money.

Maybe I will look at removing it myself. Got the service manual.

The "B" spec PR3 at Motorcycle-Superstore is $199.99, still a lot better than $316. I'd consider it at that price.
