Ok, I've posted before, have a couple of options in the Uly 08 and 09 XT versions and yesterday an acquaintance told me he knew of an 02 S3T with 10,000 miles perfectly stock. A garage queen all of it's life. It's cheap, I can get it for $3000 or I can spend twice as much on the Uly. Is the Uly worth twice the price of the tuber?

I have owned an S3T before, put lots of trouble free miles on it after I replaced the stock rear shock and the stock front motor mount. I'm just tapping into the collective wisdom of the board, plus I have a little time to kill before the game starts..

There are Uly's floating around in the $3500-$4500 area quite a bit.

I've owned an S3 and currently own an X. While I can't directly compare what you're considering because of the difference in suspension between the X and the XT, some stuff still applies.

The XB seems to do a WAY better job of engine vibration isolation than the tuber. The main place I noticed the difference was in my hands. They'd be aching like a toothache after 4 hours on the tuber while I don't have any problem on the Uly. The X has a MUCH plusher ride than the S3 as well. I'd imagine the XT is still better in this area than the S3T, but probably not quite as plush as the X due to the XT's shorter suspension travel.

The XT will have fully adjustable suspension front and rear, while the S3T lacks any preload adjustment for the front. The rear pre-load is MUCH easier to adjust on the Uly compared to the S3T.

On the plus side, the S3T will easily go 200 miles on a tank of fuel and I saw 250 miles on several occasions with my S3. My 2007 Uly would go ~180 miles on a tank with the original engine but I rarely brake 150 miles on a tank since I installed an 09 engine.

As far as performance (straight line and twisties), I'd say the two are very close.

Is the Uly worth twice as much? Probably not, but as Kag says, you should be able to find one much closer in price to the tuber.

Moot point now... I just made a deal for an 09 xb12x with 21K miles for 4500... I need to get it shipped but still should be less than $5000!

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked about this bike... Understatement of course everybody is always stoked about a new motorcycle. This one has the three color camo and a new unused set of Blue to go with it. We've been getting a lot of snow in the high country but I'll be riding the beast as soon as it shows up!
