In the last few months my oil cooler has been seeping some oil. I'm not sure if it's the cooler or the (front) hose connection. I've tried tightening this connection, but no success. Is this a common problem (Ratbuel mentions same problem in another thread)? Is it usually the cooler, or the hose connection?

The hoses are -AN fittings, they don't seal by the threads but by a tapered face. They don't need a lot of torque.

I haven't cleaned or troubleshooted (troubleshot?) mine yet. Not sure if I have a leak at a point somewhere in the coil, or at an end tank, or...? I do know, since I've cleaned them, that neither of my -AN fittings are leaking. I just have to figure out where the leak *is*....

The cooler on my 06 developed a leak in the core at about 30k miles. Replacement still ok at 105k.

What Paul56 said +1, my '06 did the same at about the same mileage. Replaced under warranty, on the ride home the new one leaked more oil on my boot than the original, since the tech forgot to tighten the lines to the cooler...

Paul, that's great mileage. I take it it's miles and not kms. My cooler went at about 5,000 miles. Fixed under warranty. I have an 06 (first registered in Feb 08).

Sorry, Paul, you did say miles. Well done. Many issues?

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like the coolers are a common problem (for leaks). Both my cooler and a hose connector are getting damp, with oil, and then attracting grime (and drips on boots). I think it's spreading from the cooler to the connector. Anyone know the approx cost of a replacement cooler, or if there is a good aftermarket cooler to fit the 07 Uly?

Current odometer is 105,505 MILES. Got rear ended by a hit and run driver 12-11-11 at 102k miles. Minimal damage to bike, rode it until May of '12 when in the course of a few days started developing a grinding noise (not road speed, trans gear or clutch related). Stopped riding it and bought a '12 Bonneville to continue my 6 day a week commute.
Took the engine out and began teardown looking for the noise. No trace of unusual wear or metal anywhere. Haven't worked on it in a while, to the point of splitting the cases and replacing the crank. It nags at me. I like that bike so much. Can't give up on it, but have to make time somehow to fix it.

Paul56, Too bad about this issue. A shame to tear it apart, not knowing wear the noise was coming from. Still you've gotten over 105k miles, so that's good.
As for the oil cooler, has anyone tried getting one repaired? At $135 for a new one, it might be worth a try. Anyone had success with a repair?
