Should my '08 have a higher idle when it's cool out? When I start it with temps in the 50's it seems to idle about 11 or 12. To me it sounds like it's lugging though by the time I gear up the motor is warm enough to ride away. It has not gotten any cooler then the 50's yet but I'm a bit concerned.

If it has the EBR ECM it will idle high when cold. Don't think my 08 ever idled high with the stock ECM.

Even when the engine is warmed up?

My wife's fuel injected Sportster idles high until it is warmed up and then it settles in about 1000rpms. Not a Buell but Harley does it on Sportsters at least.

There is (depending on your software version) a feature that bumps the idle as you release the clutch lever, to help keep from stalling and to also decrease engine braking. The engine braking option is something you can specify when you order an ECM from EBR - "I'd like more/less engine braking than stock".

If it changes with clutch actuation, that's probably what it is. If it does it all the time, you may have a problem with your clutch switch.

I was showing my wife how the Uly is "run by a computer" a couple of days ago.
It was about 40F and I hit the start button, no gas.
She started right up, idling at around 1800-2k.
I told her to watch the tach and as we watched it slowly toned down to 1100rpm.

The Uly is a basically stock 09.
