One day you notice that one of your headlights is not functioning. Since it's a Uly, your first reaction is to think to yourself "OH MY GOD MY GROUNDS ARE GOING ALONG WITH MY STATOR AND VR AND PROBABLY MY ECM TOO!!!" But then you realize it's worse than that. It's a burned out lightbulb. And why do I say that's worse? Because, friends, replacing the bulb in the Uly is a giant PITA. Well, you might say, that's not true at all, all one needs to do is to pull the rubber cap off the back unplug the wire from the bulb, and then release the wire retainer by simultaneously pushing it in while pulling it out with the tip of your finger. Ok, nobody can do that right? I mean it's sharp, and it's stiff, and it's stubborn, and there's no room to work in there. Pliers won't fit back there. You could put a glove on if you don't mind putting a hole in the finger.... So, one day faced with this dilemma, I wandered into the garage thinking "There must be something I own, some weird esoteric tool that can be used to....." And I saw it. And I'll tell you, this thing made it simple as pie to maneuver that wire harness. And if you don't have one, you can get one for about seven bucks. May I present, the latest SkiFastBadly field engineered Uly solution for changing bulbs. Patent not pending:
Drywall saw. No kidding. |

...or you could take out four screws, and drop the headlight and beak into your lap for ease of replacement. 2 screws hold the beak to the tree (leave the one screw that holds the lights to the beak, that's your adjustment screw). 1 screw on each side of the light, through the little hole in the dashboard framework. Out she comes. And since you didn't remove the adjuster screw that holds the light to the beak...you don't have to re-aim anything when you put it all back together. |

I used long needle nose pliers. The kind with the curved nose. Bulb out and back in in less than 5 minutes. |

You say it's just a blown bulb but why did it blow!? Was it just old and worn out? Vibration maybe? You don't know!! Therefore I believe your stator has gone up in smoke! It's taken out the VR AND the 77 connector! Your battery is fried and your ECM is toast! The bearings in the rear wheel are gone and the gears in the muffler actuator are stripped! Oh crap! I forgot about the broken throttle body shaft!! How did I miss that one!? (Message edited by tootal on October 16, 2013) |

Is the XT different as far as bulb access? I swapped my blown bulb in an autoparts parking lot on a trip with no issue? Maybe I am missing something, but it was no issue at all. Does the beak on the non XT cause all the issue? |

If you have tough skin on your fingers it is easy. |

I swapped out a bad lo-beam bulb in a Vato-Zone parking lot. Used an 8 inch pair of curved hemostats and a screwdriver. Took a little less than half a cigarette. |
