I'm thinking I'll get a braided ground strap and run it from the steering head ground point to the aluminum fairing casting. I'm tired of the ground wires breaking at the steering head ground. Then I'll be able to ground to the fairing casting. No moving parts there and it should make grounding easier..... (I'm thinking it should). Anyways it will be cheap and easy to do. Rather than use the fairing casting I think it would be better to set up an isolated buss bar inside the fairing. Using any portion of the front assembly could still allow for potential voltage flow across the steering head bearings which is a bad thing. | ||

I like that idea EG. I lost my turn signals last week on the Uly. That was the only symptom. Found it to be a broken ground wire to flasher. I ran a temporary ground to the framework under the flyscreen. I'll do a permanent fix in a couple of weeks when I will have some precious "spare time". Zack | ||

Yeah, I'm starting to notice short duration low voltage on my LED. I checked all my grounds last night, and I've added a bunch, but like this fix. So put me down as "me too" regarding getting a strap! Wondering whether those heavy duty terminal ends are going to be hard to locate? | ||

Those are nice ends but I believe any decent automotive parts store will have a selection that will work just as well. You just need to end up with a clean and tight crimp. | ||

A heavy duty soldering gun... Weller Dual-Heat works well. Tin the first 3/4-1" solid and drill a 1/4" hole. Put a star(external or int/ext) washer on both sides and bolt to ground. Clean ground points to shiny metal and you're good to go. Best braid is silverplate copper, tinned is next best. Use at least 1/2". Z |
