Doing an oil change in the Uly. I have a case of 10W40 "Mobil 1 4T Racing" in the garage (long story) and i'd like to be able to use it on the Uly.

Anyone use this in theirs???

(Formula + already in the Primary)

thanks

If you did use it, I'd only do so in cold weather. It's a bit thin for summer.

Thanks for the reply. Summer has left the midwest a month or so ago. I think the highest temp in the past 30 days has been in the upper 60's. Mostly in the 50's and going downhill from here. For now its gotta be better than the mud I drained out. I will switch to the thicker stuff around April or May.

Bill- In case you have any left over after the winter, Mobil specifically recommends 10W-40 4T for Buell primaries/transmissions (it's not on their website, but if you e-mail them and ask what they recommend, that's what they'll tell you). I've tried 20W-50 in my primary before and I found it didn't shift as well as Formula+. I'd be curious to know how the 10W-40 4T compares.

I currently have the Mobil 1 10W-40 4T in the primary. I really can't tell any difference between the M1 10-40, M1 20-50 or Formula+. Whatever I put in it seems to make the bike shift better than before, but I think that is because I am replacing old oil with new oil rather than the result of some magic formula in the product itself.

Heard Placebo "Running Up That Hill" the first time on Warehouse 13 when Jinxy died...

If I heard Placebo when clicking into gear, I'd DEFINITELY try something else in the primary. Sometimes I think I hear Placebo when I get on the throttle, but then I realize that it is just the damn bike trying to ping a hole into the piston.

Any of you that may have a Barnett clutch installed instead of the stocker, Barnett includes a warning in their packaging: "DO NOT USE HD Formula+ oil with this clutch, use 10W-40 motorcycle engine oil designed for use with a wet clutch". So, I have used Mobil 10W-40T with no issues.

Barnett clutch and 20w50 Amsoil Synthetic no clutch issues. The primary shares oil with the transmission and clutches are easier and cheaper to replace than gears. My Barnett instructions said Automatic transmission oil was preferable.

Hey Beached,
Good point...and interesting! I checked further as to maybe why Barnett recommended auto-trans oil in your case and 10W-40 motorcycle engine oil designed for use with a wet clutch in mine. Only thing I could find out that might be responsible for the different oil recommendations is that Barnett manufacturers clutches with different friction materials from metal to kevlar and a variety of combo materials in between.
