Just changed the rear brakes and brakes don't work anymore....

Hmmm...

Ok, so bled the line, and filled in some new dot 4 and.... still nothing...

Hmmm.....

took the cylinder off the bike took it apart and cleaned it... still no brakes....

Hmmmm....

noticed that my seals are little dry and that during brake pumping the clindar gets wet.... looks like i got a leak.

Found one on American sports bike but they refuse to ship the $16 kit unless the order is a minimum of $50 +$20shipping +duty +taxes. That's like $90 for a $15 kit. Not very happy about that. So I am looking for alternative solutions.

Called HD dealer they said the never heard of such a thing as a rebuild kit... but that the rear cylindar assy for a Buell XB12X 2008 is:

H0205.1AK

but that it is no longer manufactured and so he can't get any??? what? can't get any? like ever? Really?

Anybody know anything about this? or that can help?

Thanks all

I can find HD rear master cylinder rebuild kits.

Anybody know if there are matching parts?

Both master cylinder and brake pistons are std Nissin parts.

Tried that route. I called Nissin, they told me they can't help me that I need to contact my dealer...

The part that attaches to my footpeg written Nissin on it.

Called 2 more dealers both said completely discontinued and out of manufacturing, and so not possible to buy.

As far as I know there is no official rear brake rebuild kit, American Sport Bike has their own kit they put together.

All the components of the brake system are still available if you wanted to order them from the dealer.

What a H=+++=++ fECKING bunch of crap.

That master cylinder is a std thing made by Nissin and they can supply the parts/seals. They are just being "pissy" and not good for a US company and something you may WANT TO TELL them?

Yep! thats the thing. I am convinced that these parts are still beeing made by nissin.

I just need to find out what other motorcycles use the same nissin master cylinder. Then I can order that.

The dealers weren't even talking about the rebuild they were giving me a story about trying to force the buells off the roads by discontinuing parts supply, because they dont want their factory building buell parts.... soooooooo many thing wrong with that statement I just hung up the phone.

Guess i'm screwed.

Some corrections here:
1) We don't make the rear MC rebuild kit. It is a Buell part, H0040.F (previously 45073-98Y). You can't get one for pre-1998 models, but the H0040.F part fits all tubers and XBs since. It is an active part.

2) The whole master cylinder for a Uly (H0205.1AK) is also an active part. It is not discontinued, but we don't stock it.

3) Our store policy is $50 minimum for international orders. Always has been, it's published in our store policies that folks are asked to read before submitting their order. We've shipped a bunch of sub $50 international orders, we're not hard asses on the $50 when it's close enough. But $20 isn't very close to $50.
Why the policy? International orders take more time to process, requiring customs forms to fill out, and we have to drive most of them to the PO unless we use UPS, which only works out for larger, more expensive or heavier orders. We get hit with higher credit card fees on international orders, and international orders are inherently more risky. Losses, returns, and warranty issues on international orders cost us big time. There is a reason why a BUNCH of US internet shops don't ship internationally at all.

Al

Good to know Al, I couldn't find any reference in any of my parts books, but I only checked XB ones.

"Just changed the rear brakes and brakes don't work anymore..."
Did you just change the rear pads? Sounds like you haven't gotten all of the air out. Some bikes get air trapped that is hard to get bled. Usually you can change the pads without getting air in the system, but...
"Took the cylinder took it apart and cleaned it..."
Was this the master cylinder or caliper (just curious).

Matt,

I'll be happy to source and send if needed, but I'd be surprised if you can't order it from a Canadian HD dealer.

Hi Al, btw, just for clarity, your folks have been very helpful throughout my year of servicing my buell at your shop.

The minimum shipping issue just never came up before. Not happy about it... but I understand.

I am however, very upset at HD and the load of BS they have been giving me.

Funny how when I call them and ask for a rear master cylinder rebuild kit they tell me such a thing doesn't exist and that HD doesn't make them anymore... not that they ever did.

Then I call back with the part number and they find it now. And not only that they say that the both the kit and the rear cylinder assy CAN be ordered but it will take a minimum of three months.
but you just told me it was impossible to get because HD stopped making these parts.... he tells me HD doesn't make these part Nissin makes them for HD
you know.... its a good thing we were talking on the phone, 'cus I would have lost it had I been at the store.

Anyhow, enough of that. Onto some good news.

My buddy has an old Kawasaki ZX7 1993... which has a rear master cylinder that looks just like mine. So... we took the cylinder off and opened her up...
And by some act of monumental galactic coincidence.... the parts are identical! No kidding. piston, seals, spring, everything, exactly the same.

That was the missing link I needed. I found loads of aftermarket kits available in Canada for Japanese bikes. Now we know that the rear master cylinder on a Kawasaki ZX7 1993, is common to 1998-2010 XB12 bikes.

Additionally, I called the folks at K&L supply. They were very courteous, and agreed to help me out. They transferred me to Craig in their technical department, who said that if I sent him some pictures and some measurements he'd manually go through their stock of rebuild kits to see if any matched. He found 3 possible kits. To locate an exact match he need the final measurement, which I just sent him.
So stay tuned, for the final results from K&L. Hopefully Craig will come up with the matching K&L part number and with that the full list of compatible Japanese models.

Thanks Craig!

Hey Matt, glad you're making some progress on your search. This will be good info to add to the Uly parts cross-reference thread we started a couple of weeks ago.

So I installed the Kawasaki parts inside my rear master cylinder and everything works brilliantly.

The K&L supply part number is 32-4230 in case you want to buy one. I can confirm that it fits and works.

I will let the guy at K&L supply know so he can update their catalogue.
