Got a Shorai in my 06 and one in my son's 07. No complaints here. So light they seem like they must be hollow. | ||

I've been skeptical of the lithiums, but now that Eric is behind Shorai, I'll be giving them more consideration. Lithiums had a bad rep for problems/fires, but maybe that's in the past. 5 pounds weight savings, especially as high as it is on the Uly would be great. Do these batteries solve the slow cranking issue? | ||

No, often it is worse, as most Lithium have a lower cold cranking amps. Also a con of Lithium batteries, they don't have full power the second you turn the key. They need to "warm up", and counterintuitive will produce more power after sitting for a minute with the headlight on. Shorai makes the issue even worse, they lie about how many CCA their batteries produce, the label may say 270CCA, but in reality it is much lower, worse than the stock battery even under optimal conditions. Their warranty is garbage too, if you use more than 2/3 of the cranking amps, the warranty is void, and if you crank for more than 10 seconds the warranty is void. Also given the fact they intentionally don't include any balancing circuitry and force you to spend extra for their half ass "balancing charger", I wouldn't even recommend a Shorai to someone I hated. | ||

Arry, I read on BadWeb just the other day that someone claimed it is the position of the crank that causes the hesitation. Sounds plausible to me. My Shorai cranks it over just fine but I get the hesitation sometimes and sometimes not. Cranks it over fast though. My son's 07 seems to spin up faster than mine though for whatever reason. His Uly's engine has always felt smoother than my 06 though. Our Shorai's typically will read 13.35Volts which is way higher than the lead acid batteries. I got ours at the Omaha Ducati dealer for 25 bucks cheaper per b.attery than list. Don't know those guys at Ducati but they just discounted them for me and had to order them. So darned light. Would I buy one again? Don't see why not. I figure the extra cost is worth the we.ight loss and they are supposed to last longer which if true the price is a wash. | ||

Froggy, Do you have a Shorai? We've had them for the past couple of years and had no problems, and certainly nothing like what you have described. I've charged mine with a b.attery tender over the winter without any problems. By the way, how would Shorai ever know if you cranked the battery for more than 10 seconds unless you spilled the beans.
