Cruising along at 70mph, suddenly lost power, coasted to the shoulder and pushed it to an off ramp about 100 yds down the road. Got away from traffic and up drives a friendly local who happened to have some gas and good will. I was pushing 160 miles on the tank and thought that might be the issue so I got about a gallon in, turned the key on and no fuel pump, checked fuses and sure enough fuel pump fuse blown. Fired right up.

What assumptions should/can I make about this bike now? Fuel pump need to be replaced? I've read about the fuel pump issue do they get hot and pop fuses when the fuel gets low or is that the first symptom of an impending failure?

Local harley shop is NOT very buell friendly btw. How dare I stop in and ask for an oil filter.

You are not the first person to blow a fuel pump fuse...on a hot day...running on fumes. Happened to me ONCE; 107 outside, last gallon of gas, slow and go. My guess is it will never happen again.

Like you have read, there was a bad batch of fuel pumps that affects some 09s, which will cause the fuse to blow when low on fuel on a hot day. Only fixes are to fill up more often, or replace the fuel pump assembly. I've never seen it lead to any other issues, if you don't want to or can't deal with it right now, just fill up more often, and get a few spare fuses to keep under the seat for good luck.

Bourbon. I feel your pain. I bought an 09xt 3 Weeks ago and the same thing happen to me. How many miles are on it? If you are not over 18641 miles the bike is still covered under the Epa emissions warranty. Harley is replacing my fuel pump as we speak. Pm me if you need help getting the ball rolling.

20k miles, so I guess that's a no go on the EPA deal.

I'm not scared of anything mechanical, I'll source and replace the pump over the winter. for now I'll just keep the glass and my tank half full so to speak.

FWIW, mine did that at 19k miles or so, and now has 55k without a repeat occurrence. It was just pitching a little fit for some attention.

Does it sound like I've been married?

you know it's weird but my 2008 died on the intersate once when it had 12,000 on it.
Acted like the tip over switch = turned off bike, turned on bike and it started.

Mine never did that again in 30,000 since!
odd.
