Stupid, stupid, stupid stupid me. Maybe if I embarrass myself enough then I won't do it again. Like many states they allow right turns on red here. There was a car in front of me and light traffic on the road, and we both want to go right. There's only one car that's close coming up on the left and it's moving into a turn lane. The car in front starts to move out, I look left and see plenty of room for me too, so I start giving some throttle and lean to the right and turn my head to the right. Guess what? The car in front of me stopped! You pretty much know the rest, grab clutch and brake at the same time, just kissed their rear bumper. Everything would have been fine if I hadn't started to lean, in a split second I knew that I was past the point of no return. So I took my medicine and did a slow roll to the ground. Lucky for me the driver was a little old lady in an older car. She was more concerned about me than she was about me hitting her. She even helped by putting the kick stand down when I picked the bike up since I was on the opposite side. Well, that was a cheap lesson that now, hopefully, is learned. Only damage is a bent brake lever and seriously wounded pride. So remember everyone, look forward BEFORE moving.  | ||

 My only consolation in that space is that I have done that exact same thing to other people fewer times (once) than other people have done it to me (three times). Always in a car though, it would be much more embarrassing on a bike. So I'm above average.  | ||

"Tested bank angle sensor" is a much more clever title than "my most embarrassing moment" when I dumped my bike not long ago... | ||

Ha, yes the BAS worked perfectly. Engine shut off less than a second after reaching horizontal. Didn't really have the chance to check exact angle though.  | ||

Yea, but did the Bank Angle Sensor turn the engine off? Last year I did a BAS test and it failed to turn the engine off... There was Uly laying on his left side. Engine idling away like nothing was wrong. Go figure. Glad you and the bike are ok. | ||

I've been damn tempted to disable and remove mine. The recall/relocation they did on them that put the TPS back next to the seat latch rendered a lot of storage space at the rear of the under-seat area unusable. | ||

Yea, you can turn it off in ECM spy. So removing it would not make a difference to the bike. But... if something happened, not having it could make things a lot worse. | ||

Has anyone put the BAS back in the original spot after installing the comfort kit shroud around the shock? I thought the reason for moving it, was to get it away from the heat. If that is true, and the shroud is installed, I would think it's ok to move it back. I would love to get that area back for storage. | ||

Since the 2010's came with the comfort kit installed from the factory, it'd be interesting to see if they retained the rear mounting for the BAS. Uly_man has one- I'll shoot a PM his way and ask. | ||

Well my dealer was supposed to move mine during some warranty work but forgot. I put in the Comfort Kit and left it there and I've not had any problems with it after 36,000 miles. | ||

"Has anyone put the BAS back in the original spot after installing the comfort kit shroud around the shock?" My BAS failed while in the "improved" location, so I figured what the hell. I moved it back to reclaim the storage space. No problems in the ~10K miles since. | ||

Does anyone know if the switch is "normally open" or "normally closed"? I'm just wondering in case I do relocate it and get a failure on a trip, should I disconnect the switch or jumper the connections. | ||

And to follow on Hugh's note... if you disable it with ECM spy, does it need to be there at all? I had the same question, if it dies on a road trip, can it easily be bypassed, either electrically, digitally, or mechanically? | ||

I heard from Uly_man; BAS is still mounted on the seat latch on his 2010. He noted (as most of us have noticed), that the under-seat area still gets pretty hot even with the comfort kit installed due to the frame openings for the seat latch and on either side above the rear cylinder head. Maybe that's why Buell kept it in that location. |
