what causes a louder/harder "clunk" than normal when going from neutral to first I just did the primary swap to a Xb9 and it is "clunking" a lot louder (I think) the reason I think its "clunking" louder is my buddy was on the bike and shifted to 1st and it scared me. Perhaps its normal but seems quieter with helmet on!!!! |

Clutch drag. The first shift into 1st gear, before engine is at operating temperature, is very loud, on my '06 Ulysses. After the engine reaches operating temp, the clunk is still present but not as loud as when cold. Nature of the beast; but since you've replaced the primary drive. Make sure the chain and the clutch are properly adjusted. |

You may need to re-adjust the primary chain. New one's can stretch a little as they break in. |

Not only did you not have a helmet on, but your buddy probably didn't shift as smoothly as you would have. |
