"I did a fuel run for MPG (UK Gall). 9000 miles on the bike. 66 F, 68% RH, hot engine, normal town riding, 40 to 70 MPH max and normal use of engine braking and brakes. And NOT trying to save fuel just normal quick riding. No "coasting" or anything and I used, as I always do, VERY accurate fuel levels as well. It did 57 MPG (94 RON BP fuel. UK Gall = 4.54 Lt). Man that is just OUTSTANDING. On a 16.7 Lt tank to dry that is 210 miles or 170 to reserve on a UK Gall of 4.54 Lts". I just did a 45 mile run under the same conditions but they were four 11 mile runs with a cold engine from start. It came in at 44 mpg. The bike needs at least five miles to warm up and more like 10 to be right. I know a 10 mile run is not good but that is just how it is for me going to work. Oh and I did do my 80 - 90 mph thing a few times. It is hard not to as the bike just wants to "go". It is the bikes fault and that is the story I am sticking with. |

If it is any consolation, my '06 does nearly the same numbers consistently, and has so over the 60,000 miles that are on it. I am amazed that it will do in the upper 50 mpg range wringing it's neck in the twisties, and then only get 45 mpg cruising at 90 mph or so on the Interstates. I almost always run my bike to 200 miles before getting gas. Many times I have put in 4.2 gallons. So far I only had to push it one time for a block. |

Yes my 06 bike did the same numbers but the 10 bike was always lower. 45 and 55 ish mpg on the 06 bike and 40 to 50 ish mpg on the 10 bike. At the time I put it down to the "running in" period. MPG is always a good indication of how the engine is running as long as you have a base figure to work on. They will always be lower until the engine is hot and of course it is how you ride as well. |
