Have any of you ever had problems with rear brake squeal? I installed new EBC HH rear pads at the beginning of the season as my stock rear pads were wearing thin. They squeal on any average stop. If I apply them lightly or really stomp on them, they are fine but they are embarrassing under normal stops. Does anyone have a good fix for this? Before anyone flames me for using the rear brake, keep in mind I now have the EBR 5mm Finned rotor and EBC HH pads on front and they work great and I do use them. Along with the front brake, I use the rear as well, depending on the situation. I just hate that they squeal. The stock ones never did. Oh by the way, these rear pads don't work a bit better than the stock pads. They feel like I'm stepping on a 2x4 and would probably only lock the wheel if I was already on the front brake real hard. I am open to any ideas you guys have. Thank you. | ||

Same problem for me using EBC-HH on the rear brake, but with rear Brembo caliper from AmericanSportbikes. With the Brembo pads that came with the caliper there wasn't any squeal. Now I'm using SBS pads, time will show. P.D. With the EBC-HH I got a groove on the rear disc. | ||

Motorbike, I don't have an answer to your squeal problem, but I am wondering if you like the EBC HH on front? I have these pads, but haven't put them on yet. Any issues on the front for you? | ||

Same here with EBC pads all around. Great on the front-no pulsing but squeal on the rear. I've resurfaced the rotor but that's only a temporary fix. Same pads, same squeak. Tried washing them down with Brakekleen, temporary fix. | ||

Don't know if this helps but I put EBC pads on my 2010 Challenger (SRT with Brembos all the way around). Fronts were nice and quiet, rears squealed like a Kardashian denied fingernail polish. Paper in the pad box said to allow up to 500 miles to set. After 150 embarrassing miles I pulled the pads off and sanded down the surface glaze with my cheapo Harbor Freight belt sander. Chamfered the edges a bit too. I noticed the pistons had been digging into the teflon type backing on the pads. The stock Brembo pads had a steel backing plate pressed on. Pulled it off, applied a little caliper grease (anti-seize) to the EBC pad and pressed the plate on. Slipped them back in and have not heard a peep. Now the EBC's stop the 4200lb American muscle car like it has no business. Much better then the stock pads. Dust a lot less too. | ||

Arry, I installed the EBR front rotor, mounting kit and EBC HH pads all at the same time. This setup works great but unfortunately I only have about 1200 miles on them so far. Much better than the stock setup ever was. Very smooth although as most have said, these pads have pretty good initial bite. They really do the job but yet they feel very controllable at the same time. I wish I could say the same for the rear pads! Nillaice, I was thinking of maybe chamfering the edges of the rear pads slightly (as Krabykarl did on his Dodge) and applying some of that goop between the piston and pads. I went back and looked at my old stock rear pads and they did not have the thin metal plates that snap onto the backing plate like the fronts. If they did, I would move them to the EBC HH Pads. They give good progressive power and are a LOT better than stock pads. Or at least mine are. It sounds like your disc is contaminated. This can happen and did on my fronts after I let the pads get to low and onto the pad rivet. Try cleaning off the disc with a VERY coarse emery paper, not sand paper, and the pads, over a flat surface, as well. Also make sure that the caliper pistons are not sticking at any point once you release the brake pedal. |
