Bit further North, Plitvice and Crikvenice. Great country, some stunning roads and scenery, and really friendly people. We used to go to to the northern coastal area on occasion when I lived in Vienna 10 years ago. It was a five-hour ride and made a nice place to spend the weekend. It was a lot cheaper then than it is now! Coincidentally, I had a good time chatting and sharing a few drinks with some Croat Harley riders in Rome a few days before I left for Croatia. There was a huge Harley Owners Group rally going on in Rome. We were all getting a kick out of seeing this invasion of loud, shiny, bikes consuming innocent Vespas on the streets of Rome. For the record, Harley riders dress just as ridiculously in Europe as they do in the US.   Dmcutter Posted on Tuesday, July 02, 2013 - 02:46 pm:        We spent a day in Dubrovnik during a 2 week cruise around Italy 5 years ago. It is truly one of the most amazing cities I have ever seen, absolutely tremendous. As a civil engineer I was in awe of the construction of the wall around the city, coming up out of the cliffs along the sea. It has a very impressive outer wall that is over 5 km long with 20 of the original 40 towers still standing.
