Just picked up an 06 Ulysses w/18xxx miles. Tad over $4000 from local H.D. dealer. I test rode it and it was the first bike I've ridden/owned in a long time that had me grinning like a jr. high boy! My question is...the dealership has offered me 3yrs/unlimited mile H.D./buell warranty for $1100. They said I had a couple days to decide. From all you owners out there would this be money well spent? Never owned American bikes. Thanks for all your insight and time. | ||

Save your money. That's like paying ahead of time for something that probably won't happen. I have an 06 and it has been very reliable for 40,000 miles. Enjoy and don't give the dealer that 1100 bucks, use it for a nice bike vacation. | ||

Take the $1100 buy a service manual, give the bike a good once over, check the bearings, buy a spare belt and use the rest for road trip! I bought an 06 with 68k last year. It's a super easy bike to work on. Most of the sensors have cross compatible parts that you can buy at any car parts store. | ||

Use the money to also replace the rear wheel with the upgrade 2010 3 bearing rear wheel. I mean, if you are actually entertaining the thought of spending 1100 bucks on an over priced ripoff extended warranty then you might consider the best upgrade for the 06 and that is the rear wheel. Bought my first Buell, an 08 XT, last year. Started grinning when I took it for a test drive and still grin everytime I ride. No problems except once on the way home the bike gave a little wobble on a fast sweeper. Was a little bummed that the handling wasn't perfect til I found the rear tire was flat the next morning. Replaced it with a PR3 and now the limiting factor is me, again. | ||

Given that it is an 06, it might be worth it to get the warranty. If the rear wheel bearings fail (common issue on this bike), and you don't catch it fast enough, it can damage your wheel, sprocket, rotor, caliper, swingarm and pretty much every else connected there. Parts alone will easily be a grand, and then forget about the cost of labor. If the service department at the dealer sucks, it wouldn't be worth getting the warranty, as then you are stuck going to them when things break, dealing with slow service and long waits on parts they never ordered. | ||

Just for perspective, there are lots of us running the stock wheel and bearings (carefully) with no problems. Others running them carefully and they seem to explode every 10 miles. I keep a spare set of bearings and a spacer on the bike whenever I am further away than I would be willing to make my neighbor drive to rescue me.  | ||

I'd be willing to bet that the warranty won't cover the bearings or belt, they'd weasel out of it calling those 'wear items'. I'd follow the advice above, spend the money on a shop manual, belt, maybe '10 wheel, and gas. | ||

twin moto should have throttle shafts if you wanna pay for shipping from Europe and badweber tootal had sold a few a while back | ||

AWESOME! Thanks for all the input. I've put approx. 100 miles on since yesterday and absolutely love this bike. Not near as smooth as my crotch rockets and cruisers, but definitely more all around fun. I'll hang on to the cash, buy some better tires, service manual and fix it as it needs it. I still have many left. I actually sent one to twin moto a long time ago. Looks like they copied it exactly. The one in the picture they have is for a pre 07, it won't fit an 07 so either their picture is old or they don't realize it won't work. They want twice what I do plus shipping from Europe. If yours fails let me know, be glad to set you up. By the way, it's not a high failure item but I have sold over 40 of them to folks that have had failures. It's like the wheel bearings, some have problems and some do not. | ||

Thanks for taking the time to make these available Greg. I don't need one, and have no evidence that I need one, but if I do it's great to know I don't need to buy a whole throttle body. | ||

No problem Bill. Just couldn't stomach the thought of a company forcing you to buy a complete unit when they obviously had a component failure and wouldn't back it. (I'm speaking of the vendor) I blame Maximum, he started this whole thing!!  When a guy that serves his country well, breaks down in the middle of Missouri, (two hours from me) and I'm not able to help, bothers me. Thankfully a guy from Kansas City comes to his rescue by trailering his bike to Missouri and tells them to take the part off his bike and put it on his. (He wasn't a mechanic and didn't know how so he just brought the whole damn bike!) (The other hero in this tale!) They get Maximum going and he makes New Jersey and then his Middle Eastern duty. Now he has to order a new $400.00 throttle body so the guy in Kansas can get his bike back. I guess that all struck a nerve and since I have the training and the means to do something about it I thought I'd do my part to help. I couldn't help then but I can the next time! My hats off to both of these guys. Maximum for his service and Mr. KC for going above and beyond!  | ||
