I got a wake up call yesterday. I love my Uly but with the scarcity of Uly dealers and the diminishing number of Uly Techs even at those, coupled with my liking for long trips and my recent breakdown far from Uly dealers, I tested the trade-in waters yesterday. My Uly is a 9 out of 10 if there ever was one, has the 2010 rear wheel, the Comfort Kit, the EBR front rotor hardware, etc., but it gets no respect on the trade-in market. I remember Bdrag complaining about that. His older Vstrom got a LOT more interest, and value, at trade-in.
I rode an Electra Glide Ltd., talked with the dealership owner, at a Buell and EBR dealer, and was 'nicely' informed, : ), that the Buell market has been pretty tough lately and we'll be too far apart on valuing my Uly. He 'nicely', : ), suggested I try to sell it myself. I thought I low balled my Uly at $5600., and I only did that because he was being very flexible with the Ltd. pricing, but there is no interest. A mint condition 2008 XT with only 22,000. miles and no trade-in interest, even at a Buell and EBR store! Oh well, I'm not giving it away. I'll check into ways to ship it home from afar to be prepared in case it falters, and ride it as long as I can.

We're in the middle of that unfortunate period between our Buells being considered "discontinued" versus "extremely rare, no longer produced".

It seems to be a LOT worse than I realized, Hugh. I just checked out the Classifieds on Badweb, ebay, and Cycle Trader and there is no interest as prices fall. Oh well, in 25 years we'll be sitting pretty! : )

You NEVER will get the same price trade-in as you would a private sale no matter, most of the time, what the bike. A dealer makes no money on a used bike and also has to pay out on it with tax, warranty and the like. Used bikes are just not there "cup-of-java". It may be your "pride and joy" but to them it is just money.

The best way is to sell it private and THEN go to the dealer with the cash. Better still is to buy your new bike private as well. You can lose 20% or more of a bikes value as soon as you wheel it out of the showroom so let the others take that "hit" and get a good deal. I do. I had two Ulys at about 18 months old, about 1800 miles on them, in mint condition and still under the HD warranty. For the money they are the best bikes I have ever had.

I bought the Uly used just because of the low prices and lack of respect. It turned out to be one of the best bikes for my and I have owned a lot. $5600 is probably a little high. I bought my '08 on the private market for $3000 last year. I have been very happy with my purchase (despite a failed stator).

Wow, you got a great deal, Lyonne, as I did when I bought mine new. I LOVE the bike. I am concerned with support on long trips but I took a 3000 mile trip last August with no problems and a little planning helps a lot.

I feel your pain,it's not that I don't like the bike its just time for something different, but the value is so low I hate to sell it ,as for long trips thats what I use mine for,and the B.r.a.n. hasn't been updated in 2 years

Thanks, Luftkoph. Hey, I'm fortunate kind of like Dr. Greg, who had a wife willing to come drag his sorry butt home, time after time. : ) J/K Dr. Greg! : ) After my last, and first breakdown on the Uly, where my good wife rented a trailer and drove 300 miles to get me, she told me "that is easy, I can come any time". When I said I could be several states away she said, "yeah, but I could still do it, we like road trips"! Not bad, huh? : ) I plan to carry the HOG Atlas, which lists all of the dealers that signed up to support Buells, keep my AAA which gives a 100 mile tow, hope I never need either, but have the options. I love the bike and won't give it away.
