They still have it. They are trying to salvage the head and save me some money. Not sure on the final cost yet. |

Interesting.... I went to two of my favorite auto parts stores and couldn't find any 60wt oil. So I doubled back to Walmart and took a peek there too, but I didn't see any 60wt there either. I did stumble across some Valvoline 50wt VR1 racing oil. Anyone know anything about this VR1? If not, I guess I will stop by the HD dealer and pick some of the 60wt up from them. |

HD is the only place I have been able to find the 60W. I called some of the oil distributors in the area and none carry it. They have to order it in and don't want to stock it. It really does quiet my engine's noises. I tried Mobil 1 V Twin 20/50 a few years ago. I like the Mobil 1 stuff, I run it in most of my other vehicles. The rattling noises the Uly made with the Mobil 1 full syn in it made me change back to 60W HD oil in about 200 miles. |

I've been running Amsoil 60 wt. in the primary/transmission but not the engine. The thinner synthetics still protect better, they just don't hide the noise as well. I could try using the 60wt. in the engine for the Summer just to see if there's a difference. Need to change oil anyway! |

Well dropped by the dealer yesterday and had the their suppossed master engine tech ride the Uly. The guy heard it but says he doesn't think it's mechanical. I told him that I heard it coming from the back head and told him try taking the seat off and listening. He never did that. He says he heard the slight whistle noise which he said sounds like a vacuum leak. I told him that the vacuum leak sound was also loudest at the back head with the seat off. The only thing he said it maybe, was the intake seals. I would think if the seals were bad I would have a possible running issue especially if the vacuum sound is so loud. Any suggestions at this point. I may try the standard 60wt but I don't live in an area where the temps are always high 90's. Average temp is usually 75-85. |

Any Ideas? I wouldn't think the Uly would not run very well with the intake seals leaking bad enough to hear it. I would think I would see a fuel mileage decrease. MPG is roughly 41-42 MPG per tank since new and last tank was 42. |

I don't buy the intake seals either,if you could hear them sucking air your bike would run like, well you know.I will say this mine makes all kinds of horrible noises, but so does my honda crf |

Loose exhaust? Small gap could whistle, loose header could rattle. |

Well I have not had much time lately to do some more trouble shooting but the noise is very prominent now and is getting worse. I could really hear the noise this morning and on the way home from work on the highway and in stop and go traffic.I checked this evening after work with the stethoscope, and can hear the whistle noise, which sounds like slight metal rubbing together (like cutting metal on a lathe that starts to squeal slightly). I put the stethoscope on the rear header near the head and can hear the noise along with loud clacking coming from it. I checked the front header near the head and don't hear that same sound. I found another dealer near me that said to bring it in and leave it so they can try to pin point it. Hopefully they find something unlike the last dealer that blew me off and said it was not a mechanical sound. It's definitely mechanical and it is getting louder. Will let you guys know what they say. |

Check your fork stop pin on the ignition switch. It'll loosen and rattle up a racket back there. |

Well the bike is still at the shop. I called yesterday and they told me they have another Uly, same year as mine in with the same issue. I asked the guy what the last 4 of the VIN was on the other Uly. He wouldn't give me that info. My last 4 are 0001. I wonder in the beginning of 2009 model year, there were a few bad heads or rocker boxes. No way to tell, but will keep you guys informed. |

So you're thinking it may be a fault in the casting? |

Possibly faulty valve guides or rocker shafts, or a tooling issue during the manufacturing process or something as odd as an assembly issue that caused premature wear. Just a thought that came to mind since the other Uly that came in is the same year with the same issue. Unsure on that Uly's mileage yet, but going to try to get that info from the dealer the next time I talk to them. |
