Asked before so here is what I have tried. I have been trying to fix a big hole in my new tire. In the past I tried Slime and it worked once but twice it did not. I just kept leaking out of the hole and not sealing. I have used the Cargol "Turn and Go" type twice. Once it worked but this time it did not. In the cases it did not work for both these types the hole must have been to big. The hole in my new tire was made by a 4mm nail. I know as I pulled it out. I have just tried the "gooey" rope type. The cleaning rod went in easy as it was a big hole. The rope plug went in easy as well. The kit, with 5 plugs, was $7. Slime is $15 and a Cargol kit is $60 with only 3 plugs. That is UK prices. At the end of the day the "gooey" rope version is just as quick and easy to use as the others but a lot cheaper and looks like a more solid job a well. I have not done a road test yet but it is holding up good. We will see how well it works in the days to come. I am happy to do a repair on a rear as I do not go far but if I did I would replace it. I would NEVER do this on a front tire though but that is just me. | ||

if it's that big you might have to pop the bead off the rim and patch it from the inside. or get a 'tire plugger' kit with the mushroom shaped deals | ||

Try two ropes. I had a slit in a near bald sync cut with a piece of flint. The "hole" was more like a slice! It took two ropes to seal. Mushroom plugs didn't hold and a single rope got thrown out. | ||

These work great on the big holes and fixed this one fine. A small hole has to be made bigger with the tool to use the ropes. I have been out on the bike and no problems as yet. Even better is that you can buy new ropes on there own, as you have the tools to fit them, unlike the Cargol kit (you have to buy a whole kit) or Slime which is a "one shot" per wheel deal on a 7oz small bottle. |
