I got one of the last 2010 XTs off the line in 2009. Last season during the last ride before I put it away for winter I noticed the right blinker was flashing fast like a bulb has burned out. This spring I got the bike out and tried swapping in a known good bulb in the rear signal which was not lighting up, but it still acted the same . So I am wondering where to go next. I hear the flasher click sound coming from somewhere behind the headlights. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Nothing seems damaged and the bike never sits out in the weather. | ||

Could be a loose wire under the seat. The signal pigtails are about 6" long and have connectors to the main harness. | ||

Mice. Mice ate some of my wires under my seat. Almost got the BAS wire in half. Perhaps the mice in your region are more partial to turn signal wiring? | ||

Thanks Ratbuell. I looked at the harness under the seat earlier and didn't see anything, but didn't know about the pigtail connection there. I'll check again. Natexlh1000, I don't see any evidence of gnawing damage, but a couple of guys have told me about mice building nests in their exhaust system over the winter. I had a right front with the same issue. I could temporarily correct it by bending the flex portion of the mount. Turned out to be a poor connection inside the turn signal itself. Replaced it and no issues since. | ||

I had one of the wires in the flex part of the light unplug on my '05 City-X when it was new. I don't know if they moved it in later year Ulys, but there was a nagging problem with the wire splicers in the harness at the left front of the bike where they have to flex at the steering neck. There were two triple splices in the harness. One for main power to the bars and dash were red wires. The other triple splice was on white wires for the right turn signal system. Some folks had the right rear turn signal quit because of a break in this triple splice. Like I say, I do not know if they changed it for the '10 bikes. | ||

I took apart the left rear turn signal and it looks like the terminations are seated properly on their receivers in there, but I can see how a good flex of that could pull one of them off Bpt. I had another look at where the turn signal pigtail comes in. it looks like a jumbled bundle inside the tailpiece. I can't really get to it from under the seat to see much because of the tight quarters. It looks like I might be able to see more if I remove the brake light assembly, but I don't presently have a socket extension long enough to get to the nuts holding that in place. Etennuly I haven't looked closely at the front of the harness yet. Can you see the area you are describing from under the seat or do you have to get at it by removing the headlight assembly (the flasher unit seems to be clicking under there somewhere)? to be continued. | ||

The area I am speaking about is inside the wiring bundle, between the left fork and the left side of the fuel tank. This is the wiring bundle that goes from the bike's frame up to the area behind the flyscreen. Hopefully someone can tell us if the '10 harness was upgraded whereby they eliminated the two triple splices in the wiring harness where it has to flex while turning the forks. I know it was there in the '06 and '07 Ulys. The wiring harness would have to be opened up to expose all of the wires to know if it has the three into one splicers that can fail after enough turning. | ||

hello I too have a 2010 XT (yellow) have not had blinker issues, actually no issues at all in 18K !!! I have added LED's so I opened up the wiring to add resistors. Look up under the rear fender and will find a cover to remove and wires for directionals. Have you checked wire for connections? (continuity) Just seems like a bad /corroded connection best regards Don | ||

Hey Don, I think yellow 2010 XTs are relatively rare. When I got mine near the end of 2009 when Buell shut down the only colors available were black and red. I wanted to get a black one, but got outbid in the auction so ended up with red, which I probably paid more than necessary to get. Mine has also been running beautifully - a real joy. They put some nice engineering improvements on that model year. Thanks for the hint. I vaguely remember catching the turn signal with my leg as I walked by it last year, so I guess that could have pulled something loose under there. I couldn't find a good place to test without cutting into the harness, and I probably couldn't identify which wire was which if I did. It looked like I would have to take off the luggage rack to get to the plate under the tail, so I didn't have enough time yet to look. | ||

They are so rare that none ever left the factory that way. For 2010 domestic models, only 18 yellow X's were built, and 16 in black. On the XT 13 were red and 12 were black, then the XP had 4 in black and 2 in white. | ||

Well, Natexlh1000 called the problem and Df3112 predicted the location. Sure enough, a mouse had gotten in under the tailpiece and gnawed through the wire leading to the right rear blinker assembly. A little solder and shrink wrap and I have a right rear turn signal again. I bought a couple of mouse traps for added insurance. | ||

Ya...............sorry i'm an idiot !!  Mine is an "X"..... I even looked only for an X when I was shopping for her. I was told by a friend at Buell that 18 Yellow domestics were made the remainder black of less than 100 total | ||
