So, being a 'somewhat' edjumacated Buell Ulysses owner, I chose to purchase some 'high wear' items and swap them before I encountered a problem. I bought new wheel bearings, a spacer and a new belt from Al over at American Sport Bike and have had these items on the shelf for almost a year. I was waiting for the rear tire to wear out, and swap in everything when the tire was shot. Well that weekend was last weekend!

Tore the wheel off and yes, the bearings were pretty rough. The belt looked fine, but from what I read, most do right before they snap. I chose the Pirelli Scorpion Trail, as I have read good things about them on these bikes and, well, I like the look of the tread pattern. And I hope these are better in a dirt road vs. my old Continental ContiMotion tires. Those were good tires, but sketchy on gravel and/or dirt. Did the rear tire this past weekend and will do the front in the next month or two, along with a new brake rotor & mounting hardware.

Oh, I also installed Dyna Beads in the rear wheel vs. the stick on wheel weights. Just read about them and liked the look of the wheels WITHOUT those ugly weights. So far so good- the new rear didn't seem to shimmy, shake or bounce without weights. The tire could be in perfect balance from the factory, so who knows? The wheel does look better though, and Dyna Beads are cheap.

Allll Finished!

I also changed the oils in the engine and primary, along with new, rear brake pads. I popped the outer seal off the bearings and added a little extra grease.

I can report that the dang bike is super smooth on the highway, but that might just be in my head. Sure felt nice on the 40mi ride into work.

All ready for the summer now! BTW- it's a 2008 XB12XT, with 20k miles.

Looks like an X to me.

Why yes, it does. The PO (I am owner #2) had converted to the X-Look. He supplied the bike with the low, XT front fender, and I sold that to a fellow Ulysses owner, as I prefer the X Look. But, she is an XT.

Ya posted to late. I would have offered some advice. ; ) When I replace the bearings, I check the spacer dimensions against the new one. If they are identical, I reuse the old one. Only had one bad one so far. Don't throw out your used one. Same with the belt, keep it for a spare.

I am thinking of making my XT look more Xish. I have the grill on the headlight.
