I am in the process of replacing fork seals and busings. I have the forks off... I have all of the tools and parts that I need... but am currently stopped. The cap on my forks does not match what is in my 2008 factory service manual. Can anyone tell me how to remove the newer style fork cap? As far as I can tell the preload adjuster can't be backed out of the cap as my manual suggests. I've got the spring compressor on it right now. There is the spot for a 17mm wrench and a smaller hex beneath that. It was late and I didn't want to risk damaging anything last night... so I stopped. Thanks! |

I don't think you back it "out"...just back it off. As in, take the adjustment as far out as it will go. |

I did that... I am wondering how to remove the cap from the damping rod. I don't want to damage anything! |

The manual I have says remove the jam nut underneath and the cap should simply unscrew. |

Perfect... I just wasn't sure if I should back off the adjusting screw or anything before taking the cap off! Is your manual for 2008 model year? I wonder why mine is incorrect!?! Thanks! |
