Just wanted to send out a thanks to all those that started or contributed to the ECM threads! I did my relocation today as part of installing my EBR Race ECM that is tuned for my Special OPS exhaust that should be here tomorrow. The bike is all prepped and ready for it... and I excited too!!

BTW... What a PITA that nut is in the rear shock cover... arrrgghhh!!!... I think I spent 2- 1/2 hours on just getting that nut loose.

Which relocation strategy did you end up going with (pics). I considered a few and then another BadWeber, who had made a protective bracket to go over the ECM, accepted my offer to buy his spare. I've still thought about wedging it in between the battery and fuse box, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I did the angle bracket to mount it over the shock reservoir, I replaced the block where it had been with a spacer under it the same thickness as the ECM tab to also protect it in it's new home.

Almost just like this one...

Looks good & should work just fine. That was actually the same direction I was leaning in before my current path presented itself.

I got the Special O.P.S. pipe on this evening... It sounds great at idle, but I didn't have time to go riding before the wifey had to leave for work... (night shift nurse) Can't leave the kiddies alone for that...
To top that off, I have to work tomorrow and take the kids with me, as the wife meets me at work to bring the kids home on Saturdays... which means, I can't ride to work tomorrow either...

Let me know, I'll stop by and test it out for ya. Like to hear how loud it is. Did you retain the stock valve in the muffler? Thinking about going that route.

I really appreciate the offer, but... I got to ride it today...

Much better than before, but I was running stock ECM, so the EBR Race ECM probably had a bunch to do with the improved throttle response and little to no hesitations or dead spots. The pipe sounds great!! It's a little louder than I expected, but it didn't take long to get used to it, because it's a low rumble kind of loud, not high and poppy.

In short... I LIKE IT!!!!

Sharkguy... we'll have to try to arrange a meet up so you can hear it..

Isnt it easier to grind some the plastic from the area on the seat where the ecm makes contact?

That's what I did but it's a little trial and error to see how much to remove. I don't think you want to take out too much as the seat pan may start to deform and still hit due to lack of stiffness. I don't know for sure though. Painted the tops of the connectors and checked every now and then to see if it still hit. Mine still touches a little so I just removed a little more, waiting to see how that works out.

The bend of the seat is also heat related. So if you grind the pan it will bend much easier and the problem remains.

Alan,

Just an FYI that a small group of Buell owners meet Mondays at Allies Bar/Rest. On Edgewater Dr. @ 6:30.
FWIW most of us ride ULY's. Check Stormfronts Orlando for info.

Here's a possibly worthy project. Two plugin union extension pieces so that the ECM could be mounted in the tool kit area. It would work like an extension cord. Of course you'd need the same type of male and female connectors to make it work. Can those be bought or are they specialty plugs made for this specific application? The wires could be all one color since the connectors take care of the rest.

I like that short 'extension cord' idea. I built a buffer pad type thing above my ECM and so far, about 10,000 miles with the buffer, so good. I'd prefer a more comforting, permanent solution though.

Nice job! Did mine yesterday.

Something to keep in mind if you're doing this mod, folks - the ridge on the underside of the seat may rest on the corner of the ECM if you dont position the ECM far enough away from that outer subframe rail. I made my bracket so the ECM is on its side as shown above, but also snugged over towards the shock shroud.

What does the lower end of the ECM bolt to?
Good looking job!

It doesn't, it just kinda rests down in front of the battery. Thanks for the complement, but I borrowed that pic. Mine looks about the same though.

Frank, Another friend and Uly rider has told me about that meet-up several times. However, I have another group that keeps my Monday's busy (not motorcycle related). I'm planning to try to get out to the Buell group some Monday, but not sure when I'll be able to make it.

I'm getting ready to do an engine rotation soon to cure rocker box leaks too, so I'm going to do the heat barriers inside the frame to keep my right thigh from getting cooked. And.... I just discovered a fork seal leak.. .so another repair is on the horizon. I guess if you ride them alot you gotta give them some TLC every now and then as well.
