I am not saying that this is a definitive report but after 3 weeks having charged all of my batteries with the Ring RP25 all seems good. I have two 80 Amp (800 CCR) modern Cal Silver car batteries and they were ok from new. Over time they needed more and more off car charging as little used. One has a built in device to tell you it is charged ok but did not work well. One is 7 years old now but after the re-charge with the Ring it seems to start the car with ease. My old 06 bike battery seems to hold more power now and the 10 bikes battery spins the engine up no problem. And that is with using the heated grips on full on short runs as well. So whats it all about? Well from what I can make out you can NOT treat a modern battery like the old lead acid types? Also given what they cost it seems like a good idea to look after them right. Old school thinking does not work as far as I have found. In my case it is near $600 worth of batteries and thats not cheap by any means. (Message edited by uly_man on May 15, 2013) | ||

Uly_man, what does the Ring RP25 do that is so different than my Battery Tender Junior? I have not had any battery issues yet but just curious. Also, these bikes came from the factory with the cable to connect a Battery Tender, right? Mine had the cable and I doubt the dealer installed it. Thanks. | ||

Uly 2009 XP: I have the standard HD battery. I also have the luxury of storing said bike in a garage. I use a Junior battery tender whenever the bike is in the garage. I have experienced no problems w/charging. I'm in Florida, so batteries last 2-3 years & then they need to be replaced. (the heat kills them sooner rather than later) Why spend so much just to "charge/top off" a battery? Chris C | ||

Nope Ken it did not. If it has one, it wasn't put on there by the factory. My 03 and 08 did not have them when I bought them. Look up the year to year changes, they started adding it at the factory for 2010. | ||

My 06 came with one from a notoriously cheap dealer so I assumed it was factory. | ||

Many dealerships install them on all bikes to allow charging the inventory on a rotating basis. Staff often have to start each bike to move in out in the morning then return it in the evening. Very challenging to batteries (ail oil). | ||

Froggy is right. Until 2010 they were all dealer-installed. |
