The belts on this bike are known as a "synchronous" type. The Uly belt is 135 tooth, 30mm wide, 10mm high, 14mm pitch and 1890mm (core length) long. You can get one that will fit but it is made for industry use and NOT automotive as used on the drive system on the Buell. This I have confirmed with Fenner Belts, UK on the subject. There part number is 1890-14M30.

Now while you should NOT USE one of these for normal use they may be of use if you get stuck on the road IE it would be better than nothing at all and might even get you to the next garage.

Good info Uly_man. If anyone on here is running one of these aftermarket belts, can you please let us know how it is working for you and any issues with longevity? I know some of the stock belts are not doing too well either and I know Uly_man can vouch for that. I don't see how any aftermarket belt could be much worse than the stock.

Personally, I have not broken a belt yet, just changed mine to have a spare on longer rides. But then again, I do not ride on any crushed rock or off road at all. I think the belts that have broken are due to a foreign object getting between the belt and pulley and breaking the internal cords. Those belts are tight and there is no give to them at all, not like a rubber band. After that happens, it is just a matter of time. One hard acceleration and bang, no go.

All of this is just my opinion though, which is not usually worth much according to my wife. Thanks.

I would offer a word of warning here. I have known people in the past try to use industrial belts on their Buells, and they have not fared well. Industrial belts are desinged mostly to run at constant speed and load, whereas the Buell drive belt is completely different and subject not just to ever changing load and torque, but to weather and road abuse that industrial belts simply don't have to contend with.

I had a customer a few years ago who spent months researching alternative belts for his XB12. He eventually found what looked like a perfectly matching industrial belt and duly fitted it to his bike. It lasted less than a mile before it decided to delaminate in protest. Buyer beware methinks : )

By the way... I don't sell belts so have no vested interest in this : )

I bought two replacement belts when I broke my first one.

Ran one through the end of that particular oil change interval. Pulled it off, stowed it under the topcase, installed the second new one (these were .AKC belts).

When I broke the one that was on the bike, I simply put the one from the topcase on the bike (45 minutes on the side of the road, with only the large Buell toolkit), rode it home, ordered a .AKF belt.

When the .AKF came in, I installed that and put the temporary .AKC back under the topcase.

Its what Tojan says and, as always, good advise.

I am sure now that it is my riding conditions and something I will just need to deal with in the future. You US guys do not need to worry any and 20k is a good number.
