Is there anyone on here who can paint plastics? I was thinking of having someone paint the flyscreen and air intake/tank cover acu/ucp camo. Similar to duracoated rifles.

Look up Hydrodipping. That is a great way to finish plastic.

I have painted a lot of them. I agree with Frank for camo, the hydro dipping is awesome.

I have done mostly color matching for non painted plastic panels on the Buells. But painting camo is not a problem either. The hydro thing is technically very quick and should be a fair bit cheaper depending on how much they charge for their technology.

I want to paint mine with the mopar paint used on the light khaki metalic laquer 06 Jeep Liberty. It is close to the powder coat used on the magnesium tone wheels, but, I think it looks better. I did the panels on the hard bag panels. Then put on a top coat of clear.

I used to work at a body shop ages ago (early 80's). At the time, plastic/rubber bumper covers/front ends were becoming more common on cars. So there was a need for a paint that would not only stick to rubber/plastic but also flex with the plastic parts. Back then they would use the same paint the rest of the car was painted with, but on rubber/plastic parts they would: (1) use a special primer to make it stick to the plastic/rubber properly, and (2) add an elasticizer to the paint to give it the flexibility it needed.

To my limited knowledge this is still how it's done. If things have changed, feel free to correct me.

General, you are correct. The newer materials are easier and quicker to use and IMHO work better than what we had back then, however, it comes with a price. This stuff is expensive!

For rattle can, there is Fusion from Krylon.

I've had good luck painting things like laptop cases and other plastic bits.

another option is vinyl wrap but I tried twice to get it onto the tank and always ended up with bubbles. There are youtube videos of guys doing whole bikes and it comes in camo.
